Erie Obierver, July 19. FOR THE AFRICAN COLONIES,-Th 0 Colonization Society's barque, Liberia Packet, cleared at this port to-day for the Maryland Colony in 'Africa. She had a full cargo, and also the largest titan ber of passengers she has yet transported, more offering than she could accouunodate. • A large party of emigrants arrived in the steamer from Norfolk this morning, who hade . agaged passage in the Liberia' Packet. Among those who go out in her are Thomas Fuller and Benjamin Jo- niter, two colored ministers of the Gospel, from Dorchester county, Md. Their object in visiting Africa is to make an exploratiOn of the country, and to secure the necessary arrangements for the reeeption'of their families and .ftiends, for whom they intend 'returning in the Fall. Patriot, July 18. sfir A very interesting discovery has recent ' been made in Egypt. M. Marlette, a young 'French scholar who was despatched on a scien tific mission to Egypt, has discoiered the exact site of the ancient city of Memphis ' which has heretofore been a matter of doubt. _ After care ful search, he has found a great quantity of Egyptian and Grecian remains, buried under a deposit of sand varying from six to forty feet in depth. Among other objects he recognized the Strapeum, a montunent described by Straho.— The avenue leading to it was filledwith a large number of statues and spinxes, some of which contained inscriptions. The drawings of these remains, sent by M. Marietteto Paris, attracted much attention, and it is understood that finds will be furnished him for the farther • prosecu tion of his reserohes. The floors, walls and windows are kept perfectly clean, and the premises aroundare free from any offensive odors,,The poor creatures, who have been overtaken by mis fortune, appear to enjoy themielves as well as could be expected, and it is certainly creditable to.our city that such liberal provisions are made for the , comfort and happiness for the poor' and destitute Within' Its limits. Wholesome, well: cooked food, and plenty of it, is spread out at every Meal, and the poor all sit down at the same table, and eat until they are satisfied. Prom an examination of the Register of Dr. Jams D.
