M., when the nomination of theilfon. James Pollock, for the Supreme &nob, was withdrawn. A letter was received from Hon. Joseph Eon igsmacher, .deolining the nomination for Canal Commissipti and another from J. G. Mills, withdrawing Fpm the list of candidates for. Su- preme Bench. Iton. Frederick. 'Watts also de clined by letter, %%Ltd:subsequently the names of Thos. G. Franklin, Nathaniel Ewing and John Scott. were withdrawn' as candidates for Judges.. The nomination of Cyrus P. Markle; Us-Canal Commissioner, was also withdrawn.. Several additional nominations were then mnie—among them Dr: -H. P. Brower for Canal Commissioner. • - The preliminary morning business was then disposed of. On motion of Gen. Wilson, of Venting°, the Convention proceeded to ballot for Canal Com missioner, when six ballots were had, with the following result first ballot.--George V. After the Clerks had ..agreed in their reports, and the result announced, the reading of the roll and the mention of names voted for was der manded,.when Mr. Biting, of Philadelphia Co., stated that lie had voted for. Chambers, and not for Jessup. as the Clerks made it appear. Con siderable excitement followed, it beingconsider-. ed an attempt to defeat the nomination of Jes sup. Mr. Biting subsequently stated that be had no feeling in reference to this matter;and if another ballot was gone into he would vote for Jessup. Soon after he asked, that his vote for. Jessup be permitted to stand. The President said he had already directed the Clerk to make the alteration, and could not readmit the vote of Mr. Biting; whereupon Coulter; Meredith, Com ley and Chambers were deelareddtily nominated. The Convention, on motion, then preceded to the :.;2d ballot for a fifth candidate for the Sa preme Bench, which resulted as follows: W. Jessup, 50; Joseph Buffizigton, 54; James T. Rate. 11. There being no nomination, a 23d bal lot was ordered, and Mr. Hate being withdrawn. resulted as follows : Wm. Jessup, 57 ; Baffling ton, 57—still no choice. Adjourned. A ITERNOON SESSION.—The Convention re-as sembled at 2 o'clock and at once proceeded to the 4th ballot, which resulted as follows : Wm. Jessup, 77 ; Jos. Buffington, :18 whereupon Wm. Jessup was declared duly nominated as one of the candidates for Judge of Supreme Court of the state. Mr. Bell of Berke, moved that a state central committee be appointed, to consist of one person from each senatorial district, to act in behalf of the Whig party, which was 'agreed to. On motion, the nominations of the Convention were unanimously ratified, and resolutions were afterwords adopted, recommending the different. nominees co the people throughout the State.
