A private telegraphie despatch was received here yesterday, by which we learn that the steamer St. Paul, Copt: Norris, was sunk at Hare island, 'on the Mississippi. Inetimnce on tier cargo, amounting to $4;600, was effected by the Merchants and the Fire men's Insurance Companies in this city ,by the agents in St. Louis. The St. Paul was bound for New Or leans, with a full cargo of produce,' &c., from St. Louis. The steamer Alert, No. 2, CapL Gregg, was sunk in the Ohio, just hbovo Golconda, Saturday night, by coming into collision with the JamesMilliegar. Tho Alert was from Arkansas river, bound for Cincinna ti, with 200 bales of cotton, taken in at Memphis. Tho Millingar was on her way to New Orleans from Pittsburgh. The collision was very violent, the Millingar striking head on to the larboard quarter of the Alert, cutting her nearly in two, and causing ber to sink in Slices minutes. No material damage wan sustained by the Millingar, and the passengers of the. Alert were all saved. The boat will be a total loss. The steamer SAINT CLOUD, that arrived here yes terday from Memphis; struck a snagin the Mississip pi, which tore oft a portion of the larboaid guard, demolishing the nook house, and carrying the stove overboard. No further damage woe done. We learn from the clerk of the Belle of the West that the steamer - Andrew Jackson was nearly wreck ed by striking aisnag, near Rodney, opposite Gen. Taylor's plantation. She had also broken a crank, and was in a crippled state when the Belle of the West met her. We were informed yesterday morning that it was reported al Coria that the ateameriohn Hancock was soak. We, however, hare received no direct intel ligence to that eftcct.—Lou. Cou., 20th. Dir The telegraph informs us of the explosion of the steamer Delle Creole between New Orleans and Mobile. It also stater: that the loss of life by the explosion of the Louisiana is truly appalliug—far greater than was reported at first. The boat alluded to as having just arrived, and which suffered so se verely was doubtless the Storm, from this place. There is much anxiety here to learn the names of the persons from Louisville who were killed and wnuoded.—Lau. Cou., I 9. CINCINNATI AND PITTSBURGH DAILY STKAIII PACKET LINE.
