If there was anything connected with the political life of Gen. CAss, , in any way calculated to lessen their confidence in his integrity; or if there was such a'full and unquestionable declwation of prin. ciples, ; in a long political career, on the part of Gen. .;TAYLOR, as to impress all with the most perfect con. fidencp in his soundness and integrity,then,we might indeed- think, that there was room for the admission or n dciubt, in relation to the action of the South. But the Baltimore Convention have presented to the country a man, Minim whole life is a written guaran tee of his Roundness as a Democrat.; and who could not have been sustained by that Convention, if there had been any doubts of Ids political integrity. He will not be sustained by these who are obnoxious to the South; and will be sustained by ALL who go to sustain the Constitution against all immoral and local il influences. Gen.TAvLoa, on the other hand, though the owner ,fan immense band ofnegroes, is pledged --so'far as he is pledged on any snbject—to sustain those who are ,and always have been, adverse to what the South claims as her " peculiar institu.ion." He is pledged to veto no bill passed by Congress, un less in palpable violation of the Constitution; and as Federal argument, and Federal practice have con strued it, that instrument will admit of anything that the emissaries of. Federalism may desire. He is sup ported -by it large portion of those, throughout the country, who have ever been tho deadly enemies of the South,—oset of political exclusives whose souls could neier conceiVithe magnitude of our country; and who were therefore confined, in all their specu lations, to the State in which they were, vegetating, or at most to a section of . the country. • MP.
