There wan some excitement in some departments of trade yesterday; but upon the whole the business was limited. The receipts by river Wave except Bacon, Balk Pork, and some few other articles) were not great, and mervha tits appeared' not anxious to make enquiries. The wholesale Grocers did a fair business; many merchants from abroad are' now in the city—some of them from por tions of the west that never before had any business con nexion with Pittsburgh. In prices we have but few changes to note—in fact the quotations of Saturday might answer well for yesterday's transactions. Money—There is not much new in money matters. The lightness still exists. We are informed that Wooster notes are taken by the Brokers at 50e. Sugiir—There were several sales ut various prices according to quality. Prime New Orleans sold at Me.; a very good article was disposed of at 51051 e. in hhde. in Lbls. 4 25 1, according to quality. Molasses—The sales yesterday exhibited no change; we heard of d or MO bids. being taken in various small lots at , c.; one sale of do bhls. at Ole. It may be that there is a depression in the market for Sugar and Molasses; but, if there is, the cause is the temporary tightness in the Money Market. We have heard of sales being made at a sacrifice to "raise the wind;" but there are but few dealers who have been compelled to resort to this.scherue of meeting their en. gagements. • Pig Metal-31e transactions yesterday, contrary to expectabons, were few. There is plenty in market, as we have before noticed; but both buyers and sellers are sad. Alanutacturers are generally holding out against what they deem the exorbitant demands of the furnace filet; but a few yield, and Sales are made at the rates for- Merl) , quoted. Sales were made yesterday of 100 tons Rock Fumaee at 830; 6 moss; 23 tons Martha, 831, cash Some are confident that there is a downward tendency, while others•appear sanguine that present rates will be Maintained. •Illouur —Tnc receipts yesterday were light, with but little enquiry. We met no merchant who wished to pur chase. We heard of but one sale, and it on private terms. We think the article will continue to decline. From stores we ,heard of sales yesterday at $469.51, - :024,75. The demand front store was rather active. Apples—There were a few receipts yesterday, with great demand. Sales from first hands at 81,73.e2,Z. About f.OO barrels were taken. Lard—Market full, and receipts heavy. The firm quotation for yesterday's transactions is Gc. hi kegs. Raton—As may be observed front our river imports, the receipts are immense. The market is now full— great quantities are going East. We noticed a sale yes terday at 4 and 5 for prune article of city cured. We think this about the fair quotation; though we are aware that many hold at a higher rate. • —Ptirtber sales of 20,000 tbs. et 4c. flog Round. Bulk Poik-4. sale of 50.000 lbs. Bulk Pork al 21, and 44. Whllaker--Sales of 72 bids. Rectified. at 2O 21, cash and time. This appears to be an advance. Powder—Sales of GO kegs Rifle at $5, lU keg , . Rock at 8.415. Potatoes—Market pretty avail supplied with a good quality. Sales from store at 60 . 0 Sit 4 bushel, according to quality. Feathers—Receipts fair, with regular sales from store at3lo3Sc. There is some demand. Dried Apples—Sales from store at 622;?i accord ing to qUality. Batter—Not much coming i.. yet ; demand good ; we beard of but one sale of Roll, not the best, at lie. Cotton—Bolden refuse to recede, while buyers will not come up the demands : 714 c. for Tennessee. The factories are well supplied. Hay—Plenty coming by rivers, but notmuch by wag on. Sale. yesterday at 59,50910,00. Coffee—Prime Rio is now sold at eite,l—a decline o f cent. COLLECTORS OFFICE, April 3d, 1848.
