The whole number of boats moving on the Erie canal the past year, was about 4,000,-.1,514 new boats having been registered during that period. Large boats have gone out without much freight; and others failed in getting up. The Monongahela wharf looked fair yester day; only eleven steamers, old and new, were moored--there were times when there were up wards of sixty. The Allegheny is running with ice. At the wharf, the Packets are lying up, await ing a change of weather. Freights for the upper trade are plenty. There will he a rise heroic many days. The sun shone out beautifully yesterday, which indicated a thaw. The snow on the mountains will swell our riven flood high. But fev t : boats will be going out for some days.
