' - OFFICE OF THE POST,
Patois Moamar°, Jan. 14, 1848. S
The rivers are in excellent order for na
.
vigation, and the men of the trade have prospect
of clear , water and
. plenty of it during the re
mainder of the winter. At the wharf yesterday,
we noticed considerable activity. The arrivals
of Produce was considerable, ' mostly lots sent on
commission to merchants, or to fill orders.
We were pleased to find more stir in the business
portiOns of .the city yesterday, than we have no
ticed in the for some days -It was the best
day of the week for commercial . men.
There was [eve changes in prices; none, indeed,
of any importance.
Atom AlsTrxes.,—The• failures of Western
New York 'Bsnk, and two or three swindling cow
cents in this State, for a while produced 'a panic
in the holders of bank notes here, which, hOviever
bag subsided, "The brokers have raised the ratio
on currency, and purchasing at from l} to 2 per
cent The'banlei have excessive offerings, a large
portion of which they are unable to discount; this
has made money:rather light, and . the best baldness
paper has been offered in this State at from 1 to
3 per cent a month. The recent news from the
east is that money is getting easier. That it will
be easier here within the course of a mouth, we'
have the assurance of those who are beet informed
on the subject.

_served some time ago -a communication over the
rignature for "A Parent," stating that Dr. Jayne's
Lndiar. Expectorant had been the means of saving
the lives of three of his children, who were sufferi
:ng severely with whooping cough; and having, but
'a short time before, lost one of my children by
that dreadful complaint, and having another, and
my only child, suffering the greatest agony with
the same disease, and in hourly expectation of its
leath, I was induced to purchase a bottle of it, and
:ommenced using it accorJing to the directions—
and to the surprise of all it began to mend in fit
-teen minutes after we commenced using it, and the
:hild has now completely recovered,
I have no acquaintance with Dr. Jayne, but I
hereby return him a husband's and a father's
grateful acknowledgments.
Jayne's Hair Tonic.—We commend the atten
tion of those desirous of restoring theirhair or im
proving its beauty, to this elegant - preparation
We hear it every wherwhighly spoken of, and es

etteactous in stimulating the growth of the hair,
anil preventing and curing many 'affections of the
skin. Its virtues are amply and sulfieientlyattest
