There has been counted and destroyed during

agreeably to the carious ordinances of Councils on

As there is no N a considerable demand fo i r real

Vie removal to the Allegheny Water Works of
Mr It. Moore, who has had the superintendence of
theSvorks from their commencement, was threight to
offera good opportunity for making a change's their
management, by separating the duties of superin
intendent and engineer, thereby promoting their
eflir, iency, and increasing the revenue derived from
theoi. - - In pursuance of the ordinance on this sub
ject, it will devolve upon the new Committee, snore
clearly to define the duties of these olficers and to
select a suitable room for the - office of the, works,
which may also be used for the meeting of' the stand
ing committees of councils.
When the contemplated reduction is made in the
grades of Filth, Grant, Wiley, and adjoining etreets,
it-will be necessary to lower the main pipeslin that
.vicinity several feet, which will be attended with
cotsiderable expense and hazard, unless the work
shill be done with great care, and at a season when
noidanger can arise from the freezing of the water
in the mains.
There have been in all 3888 feet of maini laid in
the year 1847.
The Committee beg leave to refer to the !accom
pabying statements from the superintendent and
clerk, for the details ofreceipts and expenditures, the
petition and size of pipes laid,and other particulars;
and close their report by expressing their eatisfac
tioh at the general conduct of those officersind the
