When the contemplated reduction is made in the grades of Filth, Grant, Wiley, and adjoining etreets, it-will be necessary to lower the main pipeslin that .vicinity several feet, which will be attended with cotsiderable expense and hazard, unless the work shill be done with great care, and at a season when noidanger can arise from the freezing of the water in the mains. There have been in all 3888 feet of maini laid in the year 1847. The Committee beg leave to refer to the !accom pabying statements from the superintendent and clerk, for the details ofreceipts and expenditures,the petition and size of pipes laid,and other particulars; and close their report by expressing their eatisfac tioh at the general conduct of those officersind the other parsons employed about the Water Works, and their sincere hope, that this importantiinprove meht may continue to increase in its advan'tagcs to the, inhabitants, and its productiveness to the City Treasury.
