Hemphill, Beaver • ' Michigan No 0 Gibion, Beaver WEEKLY REVIEW OF TIIE MARKETS OFFICE OF THE POST, FRIDAY Mortmaa, Sept. 24, 1847. S REMARKS.—During the past week there has been a decided improvement in business, as coin• pared with, previous weeks. Prices, however, re ' main without any material change. There is ev ery evidence of a large business being transacted this fall. The stocks of all kinds of goods are ;very heavy, and the supplies of Pittsburgh manu -lectured articles were never better than at present. If Providence should send us a good rain, it ' , would be quite as acceptable to our merchants and snanufactuiers as the golden shower of Dana. The water must be at a good stage, at this season of the year, to give life and animation to business. MONEY MATTERS.—The Money market still continues easy. The demand for currency is limited. Good business paper is readily discount- ed in our banks, and the business of out of doors negotiators is decidedly dull. The Notaries corn. plain terribly of the times, and wonder why some body don't break up, just for the novelty,of the thing. The recent failures in New York and Lon don, have' o more influence here than if they had occurred in Tombuctoo or Pekin. The fact is, the Great West has her coffers full, and John Bull will have to change his habits and wake a little earlier in the morning to empty them. "Currency" is purchased by the brokers at 1 per cent. discount Eastern Exchange continues at I per cent. pre miuin for par funds. NSW AND DINGES.OI.I7 CousransalTS.—Mes• sra. Hill & Curry; Brokers, on Wood street, have shown us a new counterfeit on the Merchants' and Manulacturers' Bank of Pittsburgh, which is a vary dangerous one, and well calculated to de ceive even good judges of paper money. it is a $5 bill, dated March 1,1845, payable to S. Herron ; No. 4134 ; and signed T. Scott, Pres't., and W. H. Denny, Cash. The signatures are much better done than the engraving, which is rather coarse, particularly the figure $5 in the corners. The rir cular name of the Bank. in the genuine bills, near ly touches the border of the notes, while on the spurious issue there is a space of 416 of an inch. The counterfeits are lof an inch shorter than the genuine notes, and the paper is much Griner, and of a more yellow complexion.
