The river at Louisville, on last Thursday, was
falling slowly. There were 6 feet 5 inches of wa .

At Cincinnati, on Friday, the river was falling

At 'St. Louis, on Sunday, 16th inst., :the Missis
sippi. was falling slowly, with about Ofeet water,
in the channel to. Cairo.
The Missouri was falling from Weston to the
mouth, with only 3,1 feet water in the channel.
The'lllinois was falling fast, with 5 feet water
on the principal bars.
At Nashville, on Monday, the 17th inst., the
Cumberlalid was rising rapidly with about .53 feet
water on the shoals.

Th¢ News and the Market.—The news by the
Caledonia was received yesterday by express. The
report is, that Cotton had again advanced at Liv
erpool, and that Flour and Corn had also improved
slightly. After'the opening of the mail, a brisk
• demand for'lCOttan sprung up, and 5500 bales were
sdld at an improvement of and later in the
. day holders would not sell under to ie. advance.
Flour, too, was in great request, and 5000 bbls.
were taken alinost uniformly at $6 per bbl., though
subsequently higher prices were asked.
Corn holders raised their rates considerably, and
in consequence only some 14,000 bushels Changed
. hands at former prices. Both . Flour and Corn are
getting scarce,: and however favorable for Bread
stuffs the Caledonia's advice i may be, they can
produce comparatively little effect.
