Aucthcr cowyiu fresher milk, vielding

All of the.je cows, five iu number, ex

if they could have got them. That one

sized heifer. Naif a bushel was fouud
to be as many and sometimes more than
fiie could manage at one feeding.
The butter made .from the milk was
first-rate, and there had not been noticed
the least sympnm of ill effects of the
apples on the cows.
Value of Poultry Manure.
From actual experiment it has been
found that the droppings from four Biah
mas for one night weighed in one case
exactly 1 lb , and in another more than
three fourths of a pnutfdi an average of
nearly four ounces for each bird. By
drying, this was reduced to not quite 1 J
ounces. Other breeds make lens ; but
allowing one ounce per bird daily of dry
dung, fifty fowls will make in their roost
ing house alone, ten hundred weight per
annum of the best manure iu the world.
Hence fifty fowls will make more than
enough minute for one acre of land,
seveu hundred weigh of guano being
the uiual quantity applied per acre, and
poultry manure heiug even richer than
guano in ammonia aud fertilizing salts
No other stock will give au equal return
in this way ; and these figures demand
careful attention from the large farmer.
The manure, before using, should be
seized wilh twice its bulk of eartb, and
then allowed to stand in a heap, covered
wish a few inches of earth till decom
posed throughout, when it makes the
very beet manure which can be bad.
