Aucthcr cowyiu fresher milk, vielding eight quarts d.iily, was then put upon a ration of apples. At this time Mr. Ells worth" cowa had been running several days iu rowen feed, which would natural ly flush the railk-pail. Yet upon the top of thU tu-culent pasture the second cow was brought, when upon her full rations if app!s a half bushel night and morn ing to a daily y'uld of twelve or four taeri q't irts of milk. All of the.je cows, five iu number, ex cept one, would have eaten more apples if they could have got them. That one wis younger and smaller, though a good sized heifer. Naif a bushel was fouud to be as many and sometimes more than fiie could manage at one feeding. The butter made .from the milk was first-rate, and there had not been noticed the least sympnm of ill effects of the apples on the cows. Value of Poultry Manure. From actual experiment it has been found that the droppings from four Biah mas for one night weighed in one case exactly 1 lb , and in another more than three fourths of a pnutfdi an average of nearly four ounces for each bird. By drying, this was reduced to not quite 1 J ounces. Other breeds make lens ; but allowing one ounce per bird daily of dry dung, fifty fowls will make in their roost ing house alone, ten hundred weight per annum of the best manure iu the world. Hence fifty fowls will make more than enough minute for one acre of land, seveu hundred weigh of guano being the uiual quantity applied per acre, and poultry manure heiug even richer than guano in ammonia aud fertilizing salts No other stock will give au equal return in this way ; and these figures demand careful attention from the large farmer. The manure, before using, should be seized wilh twice its bulk of eartb, and then allowed to stand in a heap, covered wish a few inches of earth till decom posed throughout, when it makes the very beet manure which can be bad. To .Ma t'E Oba.vuk Mincb Pi el and remove tbe seeds from sweet Havana oranges ; slice, and cut .the sjjees into small pitces with a sharp knife; to these add lemon, chopped hue without tue peel, in the proportion of half a lemon to sis oranges ; and a finely grated coeoanut m.iy he added if available and desired ; make a thick syrup by dissolving and boding for ten minutes a pound of sugar iu a pint of water; pour this syrup on the fi ait ; let it cool aud serve in a glasa tJi-L City.
