There are Bi reral fiiiall show and jug glere' booth. Upon the outsiile of a email shanty one eees a large painU d canvai representing a number of wild animals, and in the centre a royal ttengai tiger is btrnggling in the folds of an enormous boa. On Tuesday evening an animated crowd wan gathered Watre IMt enow, several persons accusing the show man of deceiving the public They had paid five sous to see the animals, and had eeen but one snake, and that was 'dead. The showman protested the belt was only ideeeing. A countryman, arnied, with a heavy stick, and followed by a fritky little dg. proposed to settle the matter, and declared if he found any de ception he would enter a complaint against the showmin. The public ac claimed their brawny champion, and pay ing again, out of curiosity or a sense of' public duty, they entered tlie slow. The snnke was as quiet a ever The coun tryman walked about him, tapped on the glass, and finally decided that the snake was not alive. "It you" come when he takes hia fond-yon will see whether he i alive or not," said the showman. The countryman declared that this was mere I) to put off the public No man can daeeive me with such shows as this," he said nrje.-txally ; and the crowd ap plauded "You hnr a rabbit for hinv then, ' said the t-howinan. sulkily. The com try man was so sure that no mf.n rould deceive him that beoff.-rel te throw in his dog At first the showman ac edited lmt mm ing that his antagonist was in earnest he tegan to protest. Tb crowd became menacing. They threat rued to tear down his tdiauty, and to march him off to the police. Holding the ring in otic lunJ and his stick in the otlxr, the countryman allowed one min ute only for opining the cage. The t-ho man entreated, and was laughed ai for hie pains. ' The tints had nearly ex pired a In n he raised his li I, and with a glance of tiiamj li armtid. the country man threw in his dog. lie had barely toiiched the fl or ere the boa raised bi head, and qu'ck as a flth he enveloped the terror-stricken dog and crushed him in his coils. There was one plaiuliv yelp, a cracking of bones, a:id that was all. The countryman was thunderstruck lie took off his hat and drew his hanH across his brow. At that moment hi eyes fell upon the ebowman. With a bound he sprang npim him, giving him a blow which felled him to the earth, ant! two or three more in quick succession The showman was killed on the spot Before the Cnminir'saire the countryman ripres.-ed m:.ny itgrets for his vivueiou uiovrineiits, and so did the weeping wil and childien of the showman. " M . rrerideiit." he said, " I tan very sorry im'eed that I killed the saltimhanqite, I ut that dog of mine w as worth three hundred fiancs." The mm will be tiied for ''homxide by imprudence," and will get from three to Gve years. a IM. Curious Inventions.
