On the 4th of July last, a son of Mr. Benjamin Stimmel, of Perrysvilfe. aged about 16 years, while in the act of loading a small iron cannon, met with a fearful accident. The cannon, by some means, was sud denly fired, and tbe contents, consisting of an iron ramrod, powder, ice., entered the thigh of yonng Stimmel, tearing away. lacerating aud burning a large por tion of the inner part of tbe thigh a most horrid and sickening sight to behold. I he tow-wad also entered the palm of the left hand, and with the burning pow der caused a very serious wound. Dr. Applebaugh was at once called to attend the case, and dressed his wounds in tbe most skillful manner, and by bis great care and attention (now twenty days since tbe occurrence) has his patient in a comfortable condition, with a favorable prospect of a complete'recovery ; thongh considerable time will yet be required before the wound of the thigh will be entirely healed. Considering the exces sive beat, and the nature of the injuries, great praise is due the Doctor. Some of those who witnessed the first dressing of the wouuds and the subsequent treat ment, have told me that they never saw superior skill displayed for many who were present, expressed tbe belief that tbe case mast prove fatal, in consequence of the hot weather, and from the serious and shocking appearauce of the wounds.
