A most distressing accident occurred on Tuesday evening, about two miles south of Xew Cumberland, in the upper end of York county, by which Mrs. Jemima Wolge muth (sister of Rev. D A. L. Laverty. of this city) was fatally injured. Mrs. W. (whose husband is au invalid) was in a buggy, proceeding to a neighbor's By some mi ans the tyre came off of a front wheel of the vehicle, cud,- contin uing to hang on the axle, struck the horse's heels, causing him to run off. Mrs. Wolgemulh remained in the buggy, for a distance of half a mile, cudeavor- ing to turn the horse into a fence corner, but did not succeed. Upon aniving at the residence of Mr. Ross the animal ran against the barnyard gate, tearing it down, and proceeding through the yard and over a small bridge, upset the bng gy and threw out Mrs Wolgcmuth, who fell on her head She was soon after found by Mrs. Ross, who ave her every possible attention and sent for physi cians, who discovered that she si stained injuries of a most frightful nature. Her head and face wore mangled, an eye torn out, an orbital bina broken, her leftarm broken, and other wounds inflicted. It is believed in addition to the fall she was kicked by the borse. as it is hardly pos sible that she could have been so severe y injured by being thrown to the ground. Mrs. M. was conscious yesterday, and recognized her friends who hail been summoned, but the physicians had no hope of her recovery, and it is probable that death has ended her sufferings ere this Mr. and Mrs. Ross and family have been constant in their attentions to the unfortunately lady, end her friends fully appreciate their kindness. Mrs Woleemuth has been a consist ent christian for thirty years, and was fullv Drenared to meet death whenever called upon, and although brought thus suddenly to the end of a useful life she was ready to depart.
