A city paper says : At midnight,. on the ISth inst., at Harrisburg. Mr. George Rice, ex chief engineer of the Reading railroad, was robbed of aixiecn thousand dollars. Mr Kice, who is now the contractor of a new railroad from Driftwood, Elk county, to ihe Allegheny railroad, arrived at twelve o'clock on the Readiug railroad from Philadelphia, with a satchel containing sixteen thousand dollars, to pay the hands employed by him. He jumped f rom the train before it reached the Readiug depot, to proceed to the Pennsylvania Central depot, to meet his partner, Mr. Tboina A. lit-illy, who was to accompany him to Driftwood. The satchel was strapped to hii arm. He was met in the dark by an unknown peasnn who threw cayenne pep per in his eyes, cut the strap and disap-: peared with the satchel and the money lr.
