A Frightful Sciciihs .1 Ma - dr the infi of liqaur shnots himself through the heart. On last Friday even ing, between six and seven o'clock, tlie town of Huntingdon was thrown into a high siate of excitement by a report that John Schmearsman, the j roprietor of a Lager Beer and Billiard Saloon, opposite the Morrison Home, on the west corner of Allegheny and Third streets, had com mitted suicide by shooting himself hrough the heart with a revolver. The facta of the case are about these : Schmearsman had been drinking freely through the day aud iu the evening he procurred a horse and buggy and drove out in the directiou of Alexandria. A short distance beyond Sinithfield, iu full view of several persous, his horse pursu ing a very moderate gate, he drew out a revolver and shot himself, the ball enter ing the heart. An inquest was held eliciting the facts above stated. lie leaves a wife and two small children. He appeared to be doiug a brisk business. This is the second victim upon the altar of Bacchus in the short space of two or three weeks which we have been com pelled to chronicle. Who is the next vitctim! Ilanlingdoa Journal. Destructive Fikb in Ssvder Coun ty. On the 13th inst. a fire broke out at Beaver Springs, Snyder county, and de stroyed a large amount of property. The Middleburg Post says : The fire started in the engine room of the tannery about 2 o'clock A. M. There was a high wind prevailing at the time and the flames spread rapidly. The property destroyed, as near as we can learn, is as follows : The Steam Tannery, belonging to Mr. Banks Dreese, with all its contents, iu cludiug a new four-horse wagon loaded with leather, which was standing in front of the building. The dwelling house of Mr. Adam Specht. A match factory belonging to the same gentleman. A stable belonging to Mr. Samuel Bach man. A large barn and other outbuildings belonging to Mr. Jacob Dreese. A stack of hay belonging to Mr. Reu ben Dreese. There was nothing saved from any of the buildings. Mr. Specht lost all his furniture, did not even save any of his wearing apparel, and barely saved bis life. Mr. Jacob Dreese lost all of his horses, cows, youug cattle, sheeps, hogs . &c We Lave no estimate in regard to the value of the property deetroyed. To Employers A Committee of business men have organized the Em ployment Bureau of the Young Men's Christian Association, and located an office at 123 South Seventh Street, Phil adelphia, where applications for situations are registered, and so classified that at a moment's notice, Clerks, Book-keepers, Salesmen, Porters, lad, Farmers, Gar deners, and Laborers of all kinds can be supplied. A great many desirable persons from other cities, aud the country and the old world, are constantly flocking to the city, and as strangers tbey apply to the Aeo ciation to befriend them. It is often ot great interest to business men to get help, and get it quickly, and the Bureau offer their services, making no charge to either 2'arty.
