M. Lili.ie'd Move. Thus were two im portaut moves on Miss Lillie's checker board of life skilfully made. The house was to be refitted, and the Newport pre cedent established. Now, dear friends, don't think Lillie a pirate, or a conspirator, or a wolf-in-sheep's-clothing, or any thing else but what she was, a pretty, little, selfish womau ; uudeveloped iu her conscience and afTectious, aud strong in her iustincts and perceptions ; in a blind way using what means were most iu her line to car ry her purposes. Lillie had always found her prettiness, her littleness, her helplesuess, aud her tears, so very useful iu carrying her points iu life that she resorted to them as her lawful stock in trade Neither were her blues entirely shamming. TLeie comes a time after marriage, when a husband, if he be any thing of a mail, has something else to do than make direct love to his wife. He cannot be ou duty at all hours to fan her and shawl her, aud admire her. Dis love mu.-t exjjr.ji'S i:self through other channels, lie must be a man, must go f.rih to a whole world of interests that lakes him from her. Now. what to this co,e shall a woman do, whose only life lies in pct'-ing and adoration and display? Springdale had no bran nutnde, no fashionable circle, no lois de Boulogne and no beaux, to make. amends for a isus band's engrossments. Grace was sisterly and kind ; but what on earth had tbey in common to talk about T Lillie's ward robe was iu all the freshness of bridal exubearance, and there was nothiug mors to be got, and so for the moment, no stimulus in this line. But then where to wear all these fine French dresses 1 Lillie had been called on, aud invited once to a little social eveuing parties, through the whole round of old, respec table families that lived Under the elm arches of Springdale ; and she had found it rather etnpid. There was not a man, to make au admirer of, except the young minister, who, after tbe first afternoon of seeing her, returned to his devotion to Rose Furguson. You know ladies, Ksop has a pretty little fable as follows : A young man fell desperately in loVe with a cat and prayed to Jupiter to change her to a woman for his sake. Jupiter was so obligeing as to grant his prayer ; and behold, a soft satin-skinned, purring, grceful woman was given into his arms. But the .legend goes On to say, that, while he was delighting in her charms, she heard the sound of mice behind the wainscot, and left hiin forthwith to rush after her congenial prey. Lillie bad heard the soud of mice afar at Newport i and she longed to be after them once more. Had she not a prestige now as a rich yonng married lady 7 Had she notjewals and gems to show ? .Had she not any number of mousetraps, in the way of ravishing toilets T She thought it sll over, till she ., was sick with longing, and was sure that nothing bnt the sea-air could do any good ; and so she fell to crying, and kissing ber faithful Jeha, till she gained her. end, like a veritable little cat as she was. WILLI ATI KARE & CO. Munufucttirert of Grand Square aad Upright PIANO FORTES; BALTIMORE, MD. These Insirumeuts have been before the public for nearly Thir'y years, and upon their excellence alone attained an unpurchatrd prt eminence, which pronounces them unequalled. Their TONE', combines great power, sweetness and line singing quality, aa well as great purity of Intonation, and sweetness through the entire scale. Their TOlCH is pliant and elastic, aud entirely free from the stiffness fonnd in so many Pianos. In WORKMANSHIP they are unequalled, using none but the very best stnontJ maierinl, the large capital em ployed in our business enabling ns to keep co&tinuaily an iuimenee stock of lumber, ic, ou hand. SjGJu All our Syuarr Pianos have our Jew Improved OversTkcnu Scale anl the Ayrajje Treble. Jtay We would call special attention to our late improvements in ORASD I'AXOS an l SQLAKE 1JiAAVS, I'attrned August, 14, it"ifi, which brinj th Piano nearer perfec tion than has yet ben attained.
