Tuesday . and - WeAlnesday, the ..21st. and 22d
days of December, 1875, are dais to be remem
tiered for the unusual , and amide', change of
iemperature. Tke difference between the first
dity, at Six a. In., and tbirtyliburs afterward
was sixty.two degrees, and we: have taken a
,careful look over the weedier reports of this lo
cality for a period of over a quarter century,
and -find that the most sudden Cheops which
have taken place were not- over forty degrees
in a period of 4 brty-eight hours.
Railway Change.
The D. L. dr ,W. RR. o. Copnot notices in
their car and machine shops on Thursday an
nouncing (hit the time In' these shops from
that date will be reduced to six'bours:a day.
The - Company are seriously contemplating
changing the gauge of the railroad from its,
present broad guage to , the narrow goage, and
hence have • issued orders to discontinue the
construction of broad guage.coal cars, Which it
is said accounts for the reduction of time In
the shops. Experience teaches that the narro s w
gunge.railroads can be operated atilt= twenty
to thirty per cent. loss expense than the broad,
