He volunteered at Montrose, under Captain Tyler, of Company IT, 141st Regt. P. V., from which ha was honorably discharged,upan the failure of his health, which being restored. he entered the service again in Company H, Stith N. Y., and continued through the w-__untiurt amid the desperate engagements befortersburg. but fell in intercepting Lee's re treat, at Rice Station, pierced by three balls: either of which would have produced death, which he an ticipated and arranged for before entering this last engagement_ Thus at the early age of nineteen years and seven months he nobly fell in the defense of his country, and another household is draped in mourning, but not without a hope that his spirit rests with God, awaiting the final summons to a glorious reconstruction, where the smoke of battle will never curl and Rebellion come no more. A. E. 11 PINCKNEY—Mr. Wm. T. Pinckney, an old and highly respected resident of New-York City, died on Sunday morning at two o'clock, of apoplexy. He has long been placed in positions of trust by his fel low-citizens, which be has always filled so es to give entire satisfaction, always holding himself above re proach, either publicly or privately. Formerly a resident of the Seventh Ward, he represented that Ward for over twelve years In the Board ot Educa tion, and when the first Ten Governors were op pointed over the Alma House, he was designated by the Governor of the State to occupy one of the chairs. After his turn had run out he was re-appointed to fill a vacency occurring in the Board, and subsequent ly was re-elected to the position by the public. He was President of the Astor Fire Insurance Company from Its organization, and retained the position until taken away by death. The funeral services took place Wednesday, May 24th, at 3:•;' P. M., In the Church of the Holy Trinity, corner of Madison-avenue, Mod Forty-second-street. There was quite a large gathering present, thcluding many of our oldest and, most highly honored citizens. men who have beet emaciated with him either pri vately or publicly for many years; representatives of the Astor Fire Insurance Company, of which be was President at the time of his death; ex-Gover nor of the Alms Ileum.; officers of the Board of Ed ucation, and many others were present to witness the last earthly tokens of respect given to one who richly deserved their esteem while living. The Rev. Mr. Tyng, the pastor of the church, conducted the exercises. The remains were placed in the Second street flemete .., !or the present.
