The war ill tho Kant in expected 1 1 raiso the price of wheat iu thu Tuited States. ICurupuan wars have usually had such a result. Military operations along tho south eru bordor of Huston nlmottt neces aarily interfere with tho export ol wheat from that country, and the United States must supply tho defi ciency, "ltussia is tho great gran nery of the world, and her wheat seeks its market from tho Hlaek Kea through the Dardanelles into tho Mediterranean, but this sea and the Danube- clood, it will have no outlet save through the Baltic by way of fcL Petersburg, and that will prove too costly. So this is America s op portunity, and her grain will soon be in demand fo Western Europe And should tho war spread and in volve other nations, farming may be profitable work iu this country for years to come, and even our manu factories may profit by the misfor tunes of Europe.' The Coming Elections. In view of tho residential election ia November, the State eloc.tious which will prccedo it will bo looked t with interest. The following is the order of theso elections : 1. Kentucky, on tho first Monday in August, for members of the Leg islature and Circuit Judges. I'u donbtedly Democratic. 2. California, on tho first Wednes day in Sppteiubor, is for members of the General Assembly and members of Congress. The parties are pretty equally divided, each claiming the victory, and an exciting contest is predicted. 3. Vermont on the first Tuesday in September, for Utate ofllcers and members of tho General Assembly, and as the State is overwhelmingly llepahliuan tho only interest attach ed to tho election will bo the relative loss and gain of the two parties. 4. Maine, on the second Monday in November, State ticket, and there seems to be no doubt of the reelec tion of General Seldon Cornier, Re publican, the present Governor. 6. Georgia, on the second Tuesday in October, for Governor, with pro bablo choice of the Demociatia tick et by a large majority. ' C. West Virginia, on the second Tuesday iu October, State ticket, members of the Legislature and members of Congress. The Demo crats claim that all their distentions are healed, aud that they will carry the State. 7. Ohio, second Tuesday in Octo ber, for a full ticket, with the exeep tion of Governor. Tho Kcpublicuos elaiiu they will carry tho State by an increased majority over Haves' vote ju 1875. 8. Indiana, on the second Tuesday in October, for a full Stato ticket Indiana promises to bo the battle ground preparatory to the Presiden tial onset in Novembor, and both parties will put forth their best efforts to secure the asceudency. i). Iowa, on the second Tuesday ia October. This is a Republican State, and may be expected to cast its vote in that direction both iu Oo tober and November. 10. Nebraska, second Tuesday in October. This is also a Republican - BUte. 11. Texas, on the first Monday in November- This State will probably 'go Democratic by from 75,00.1 to 100,000 majority, but the election is too near the time of holding the ' Presidential election to affect it in , any perceptible degree I n , - - - J 37" Both Houses of Congress have unanimously adopted a joint resolution offered by Senator 8hr inan, of Ohio, thanking ' Almighty God in tho nam of the people for .Ilia aafe guidance through tho cen- . tury just closed, acknowledging their dependence upon His divine will raooguuing tho aervioea of Geo. Because a militia company refined to surrender its arms to a mob its officers and men wero shot down like dogs. What does Govornor t'lmiu- laiu propose to do with tho ruffians f j Thk Liberal Republican National i Committco have itemed an address to tho party, postponing indefinitely the meeting of their national con vention, and cordially endorsing the nomination of Hayes and Wheeler. We muko tho following extract from it : It is a logical result of the Liberal movement that thoHO who still adhere to it should at this time cordially support Hayes and Wheeler. More deculeil that the platform upon which he stands, Oen. Hayes as personally declared for tho civil service reform. for tho return of specie payment at the earliest possible day, and for the rulo of one term only for the 1'rexi deney the latter p'ineip'e buing found only in tho Libeiul Republican platform. The characters of the nominees guarantee the principles they profeBs. If the Liberals in 1872 sustained Horace Greeley, who was tho foremost Republican of his day. becauso ho was an unselfish pa triot anil an honest man, they must now sustain Gen. Hayes for tho same reason ; and to do otherwise would bo an inconsistent action. Tho opposition of thu Liberals has never been against tho Republican party, of which they formed a part, but rather against thoso who, unfor tunately for it aud for tho nation, havo had control of its destiny to its discredit WfifA few days ago M iss Sarah Ooodloo, daughter of a prominent rosidout, of Vo tago, Tu., and to little girls, named Jeunie Wagner and Laura Webb, went out in the Wyckoff Mountain to pick huckle berries. About ten o'clock the U'ubb girl returned crying to the vitiligo, aiul said that Miss (.oodloe hud been bitten by a rattlesnako and was sick in the woods about a mile away. 1 lie young lady's father, accom panied by a couple of friends and, Lr. She was entirely uu 'conscious and was at once proiionuc- en ueyonti an numan ui'i. i ue suase bad sunk his fangs deep into the calf of Lor leg in two places, and one of them was found hanging to her stocking. The doctor adininistorod such remedies as are used iu such caxes, but tho unfortunnto yonog woman died in a few minutes after the arrival of her father and party Her limbs swelled that the one bit ten by tho snake hurst the skin She died in the most intense agony. Tho tircn instances attending the esse are related by the little girl as follows i They were nicking berries near the top . of the ridge and had their pails nearly filled. Suddenly Mine (j oodloe gave a loud soreaui. and, dropping her pail, ran wildly out of the bushes toward a plot of grass near by, shouting, "My God. my Qod. a rattle snake has bitten me 1 Mie threw herself on tue grass and commenced rolling and shrieking. The litttlo Webb girl ran toward her and saw a portion of the snake, which sepmed to be still at tacking Miss Ooodloo. About half of the snake, from tho rattles ui, was exposed, and it was sounding the luttor in a manner denoting the greatest rage. The litile girU. with singular bravery, seized the reptile by the tail and jerked it loose from Miss Ooodloo, and killed it with a club before it got away.
