Pigeon Shooting. The Altoona Tribune says : " It has for some time been a matter of common report that a half-dozen miles distant from this city is a " pigeon-roost." A "pigeon-roost" is a spot to which all the birds of that particular feather residing insido a score of townships, resort each nightfall to secure lodging till the following daybreak. - Two of our amateur sportsmen, hearing this report, determined to arrive at its truth or falsity. Accordingly, armed with a blunderbuss or two apiece, they, on Monday evening, repaired to the spot named, and remained there throughout the nlgbt. The means of slaughter made use of by them, whether blunderbuss or some thing else, has not transpired, but it is a fact that they came home next morning with a five-bushel bag, nearly full, of dead pigeons. , Xjfarrow Escape. The Duncannon Jleeord says : " On Thursday last as our towns man, Wm. II. Pennell, was hastily making his way to the depot in order to catch the one (1) o'clock train for Marysville, bis foot slipped in an attempt to run over the R. R. track on the crossing at the south east end of our town, and his boot heel became tightly wedged in between the rail of the track and the woodon fender. His most strenuous efforts to free himself, proved un availing, and when the train arrived with in a few yards of him, despairing of saving his leg be threw himself on the outside of the track, whioh action saved his limb and probably bis life, as it tore off the sole of his boot, thereby freeing his foot, and ena bling him to rise up and go on bis way re joicing.
