l)c intesv ftew Blaomftclb'; Ja. 8 Killed While nt Worship. Richard S. Shrove was the Methodist preacher of the Bototourt circuit, Va., and the Rev. John Bhreve wa the Methodist preacher on an adjoining circuit. On the lstinst, those brothers, with the wife ofthe first, had been visiting a friend and re turned to the house of the first named near night. The evening meal had been pre pared, and before partaking of it, family prayer was proposed. Mr. 11. B. Shrove has several children, the cldeBt of which is seven. The youngest of them being fret ful, the mother directed the eldest to take all of them Into an adjoining room and to quiet them during worship.' The adult per sons then seated themselves for family wor ship, Mr. John Bhreve one side of the win dow, Richard Bhreve seating himself in front of the window, and the servant girl was seated noar a table in the centre of tho room. The Bible had just been passed to John Bhreve to commence the service, when the death dealing electric stroke came. The heavens were ovorcast with dark, angry clouds, and a few scattering drops of water had fallen as the only pre monitions or precursors of that awful electric stroke. The eldest of the children camo into the room immediately after the report, and surveyed the soene, and gives the only intelligible account. Her father and mother were prostrated ou the floor. Mr. John Shrove was staggoring about tho room, uttering some incoherent words and soon fell to the floor. The servant was paralyzed with terror. The little girl thought to place her hand over her father's heart, and it was still beating. The near est neighbor was half a mile distant. The servant girl unacquainted with the road, and finally the eldest girl, leaving the other children in that house of death, piloted the servant girl through the storm to the nearest neighbor for aid. The Rev. John Bhreve recovered, but tho electrio bolt did its perfect work with R. Bhreve and his wife, furnishing one of the most startling exemplifications on record of the truth of tho line in the burial service in the book of common prayor, to wit : " In the midst of life we are in death." Hurd to Acconnt For. Willie Cummings, lost an arm by being run over by the cars at Troy, N. Y. When tho lad was taken homo, his arm was brought after him. It was thrown into a pail, when the poor little follow screamed with pain. Tho severed limb was then placed in a box and buried in the garden. Shortly after, littlo Willie com plained of a pain and a queer feeling in the severed hand. He said that something was crawling on the inBido of the hand. The limb was exhumed, whan a large worm was discovered in tho palm of the hand. A large jar was then obtained, and it became necessary to crowd the arm in, when the sufferer fairly went into a paroxysm of pain. The limb was placed in a jar partly filled with alcohol, and then replaced in the ground. Tho little fellow complained that his arm and fingers were in a terribly cramped position, and that the little finger and the next one was growing together. The jar was then taken up, when the limb was found crowded and cramped as do scribed. This is . remarkable, although such in stances are often related. In this case tho little nine-year-old lad was ignorant of what disposition was made of the limb. The lad is very low at the present writing, and some doubts are entertained of his re covery. tSBill McKenna, of Grafton, New York, got up early the other morning. Ho was nervous and ugly. Ho took his revol ver frpm a drawer, cleaned it carefully, and loaded every chamber. He said he was impressed that be should shoot some body before night. Ho didn't know why he felt so, exactly, but that was tho way he felt, although he had no idea whom he -was going to shoot. After breakfast ho sauntered around with a florce scowl on bis face. He was moody and reserved, but to a confidential friend be showod his re volver, and said he had a strong presenti ment that he would shoot somebody be fore night. Tho rumor spread that Mc Kenna was bad that day, and social inter course with him was circumspectly in offensive. Many times his hand wandered to his pistol pocket, and toyed with the handle of the deadly weapon. These move ments caused uneasiness among thoso who noticed them, and because they remember ed his impression that he would shoot somebody before night. Finally Bill Mc Kenna wout homo, and began to undress for bed. He took the revolver from his pocket, and said he was so glad that he hadn't shot anybody after all. He pulled the hammer back to a full cock, and was going to take out the cylinder to clean it. His hand unwillingly touched the trigger. Bang went a chargo, and up wont a bullet into his shoulder. After the ball had been extracted, McKenna said he had felt all day as though he was going to shoot some body. IW At Philadelphia on tho 18th iust., John Williams, who is separated from his wife went to her mother's to see her and ask her to return home. She lefusing, he drew a pistol and fired three shots, one took effect in her lt breast. "The bus jand has not been arrested. Kew AdverUaements. -yjT ANTEIt.-Agents for CHARLES BUM YV NEK, by (len.
