On Friday last, as a son and brother-in-law of Mr. Jas. For Township Clerks: Township clerks are required, within sixty days after the .annual spring elections, to make out and publish a full and complete statement of the financial condition of their township under a penalty of fifty dollars. In several countios in this state, where this law was disregarded, suits have been brought by the taxpayers and the penalty collocted. By observing the law township clerks may - save themsolvos and friends the trouble and expense of litigation. Killed ou the R. R. A man named Wirt, was killed on the R. R., a short dis tance below 8olin8grove,on Tuesday of last week. Mr. Wirt was one of a party of track hands, who were not warned to look out for a train running out 01 regular time, and in going around a curve the train came upon them suddenly. They attempted to remove their hand-car, but before getting it clear of the track, concluded it was dan gerous to remain any longer. The decosed however, fearing danger to the train, again attempted to replace it, thinking it would do less damage to the train, but in so doing be was struck in the back, and thrown a distance of about fifty feet against a rock, causing instant death. lie loaves a wife and six children." . A Railroad Bridge on Fire Wednesday afternoon a locomotive epark set fire to an oil tank while the train to which it Was at tached was parsing over the railroad bridge at Rockville. The fire spread to three other cars loaded with oil. Being near the west bank of the river the cars were rapidly shoved off the bridge and the structure, which had caught fire, was saved from de struction. The watch box on the west side of the Susquehanna was considerably scorched, and the oil, with the cars, was nearly all consumed. A large force of Pennsylvania railroad employes and the Good Will engine were dispatched from Harrisburg to extinguish the fire. A num ber of trains were delayed in consequence of the accident. A Strange Cut. A Harrisburg paper says Mr. John Grove, of Baldwin, is the possessor of the strangest cat we have seen any account of lately. Some days since Mr. Grove brought into the house two young rats. Pussy eyed them sharply, but the sweet morsel was denied her and the young rats carefully caged up for the night. In the morning Mr. Grove placed one on the floor near the cat, which, with her kittens, was sleeping quietly ou the hearth. Pussy opened her eyes, stretched her paws and gently drew his young ratship along side her kittens. The other one was then placed near bor, when she did the same thing ; and, singular as it may seem, she has not only refused to harm the rats, but has actually nursed and cared for thera as gently and tenderly as for her kit tens. At night kittens aud rats are tucked away by her in their little beds, when she watches over them till morning. This strange conduct has been witnessed by many and is strictly true. Juniata County. The horse and Kobison both went home on foot about two hours apart. Last Sunday Mrs. Benjamin Kepner, of Milford township, atteuded Mr. Black welder's church during morning service. She was accompanied by a grandchild aged about 6 yeaiB, and a young man, a son. On the way home, a short distance beyond tho lower railroad crossing at Pat terson, the horse frightened at a child's carriage at the side of tho road. The young man sprang out of the buggy to take the beast by the bridle. The animal was took quick for him, eluded his ell'orts to catch him, wheeled and upset tho buggy, which was an open one, thereby throwing Mrs. Kepner and the child out, and injur ing them to such a degree that Dr. Banks was called to minister to the requirements of their injuries. Tho streets were thronged all day by the largo crowd, and the air was filled with delightful music by tho different bands. On Monday evening Mr. Augustus Sprecker, a clerk in Miller's dry good store, Carlislo, accompanied by a lady, drove to Mt. Holly.' On thoir return home tho horses became frightened and ran away. In crossing the II. & P. railroad at the end of town, Mr. Sprecker was thrown vio lently out of tho buggy on the ground, knocking him senseless. At Martin's barn the buggy struck a wagon and the horses became detached. Mr. Sprecker was car ried to the Mullin House and medical aid summoned. He lay Monday night in a critical condition, but rallied on Tuesday so as to be removed to Carlislo. Strange to say, the lady escaped injury. Church Notices, Presbyterian Church. Pierce : Your Discovery needs only a fair trial and it will do all you reccommend it to do and more too. When I was fifteen I caught cold and for twenty eight years I have been a perfect wreck of disease, aud all the medicines and doctor's bills have run up at times to two and three hundred dollars, and never any bettor but worse, when I give up all hope last spring of living the summer through. I received one of your Account Books and told my husband after reading it that it was too late to try further, but he said it was never too late. He went and bought two bottles and I found it was helping me very much. Since 1841 I was troubled with Catarrh and Sore Throat, and was almost entirely deaf in one ear and ray voice was as dull as could be. There was constant pain in my head. Now my head is as sound as a dollar, my voice is clear, and I have used ten bottles of your Discovery. It has cured me of Ca tarrh, Sore Throat, Heart Disease, Spine Affection and Torpid Liver. My Liver was very bad. My skin was rough. AVhen I put my hand on my body it was like fish scales. Now it is as smooth and soft as a child's. In conclusion I will say I have been well for throe months. I am a won der to myself and friends. This is but an imperfect statement, half has not been told.
