Notice is here, by given, that Letters of Administration . m. nt. c. f.,on the estate of John Haker late of Spring township, Perry county, l'a., deceased, have been granted to the undersigned, residing In said township. All persons indebted to said estate are requested to make Immediate pay ment, while those having claimiOvlll present them duly authenticated lor settlement to CATHARINE BAKER, July 22, 1873. 6t Administratrix, 13 1ST At a lato sitting of the Cork As sizes, a case was brought boforo the court, in which the principal witnoss for tho de fence was a tanner, well known in the sur rounding country by tho sobriivuet of "cra zy Pat." Upon Crazy Fat being called for his evi dence, the attorney for the prosecution ex erted to the roost possible extent his knowl edge of legal chicanery, in the endeavor to force the witness into some slight incon sistency, upon which he might build a point ; but he was oxcossivcly annoyed to find that Crazy Fat's evidence was consist ent throughout. Perceiving that acute questioning failed to answer his purpose, the disoiplo of Coke and Blackstono botook himself to that oftentimes successful resource of lawyers, ridicule. " What did you say your name was ?" he inquired flippantly, " Folks call me Crazy Pat, but" "Crazy Pat, eh? Avery euphonious ti tle ; quite romantic, eh ?" ' " Romantic or not, sur, it wudn't be a. bad idea if the parliament wud give it to yourself an' kave rue to chuse another." This caused a slight laugh iu the court room and tho presiding judge peeped over his spectacles at the attorney, as much as to say, " You have your match now." " And what did you say your trade was?" continued tho disconcerted barrister, with an angry look at the witness. " I'm a tanner, sur." " A tanner, eh I And how long do you think it would take to tan an ox hide?" "Well, sur, that's owin' to circum stances." " Did you ever tan the hide of an ass ?" "Anass? No, Bur ; but if you'll Just step down the lane, after Coort, I'll show ye I cud tan the hide of an ass in the shortest end of three minutes." Curious Epitaphs. A stono-cutter received tho following ep itaph from a German, to be cut upon the tombstone of his wife : " Mine vife Susan is dead, if she had life till nex friday she'd been dead shust two veeks. As a tree falls so must it Stan, all tings is impossible mit God." Any one who visits Childwald, England, can read in the cemetery there, tho follow ing epitaph : "Here lies mo, and my three daughters. Brought here by using Seldlltz-walers. If we bad stuck to Epsom salts, We wouldn't have been in these here vanUs." In a town in Connecticut a man died, who had a large wen on top of his head, and his tombstone bore the following trib ute to his memory, and also to the wen : " Our father lies beneath the tod, His spirit's gone unto his Ood, We never more shall hear his tread, Kor let the wm upon hit head." Robert Kemp ordered the following lines to be plaoed on tho tombstone of his belov ed partner : " She once was mine, But now, oh, Lord I hor to Thee resign, and remain your obediont, humblo ser vant, Robort Kemp." t2T A man iu Whitehall kicked another man and was arrested for so doing. When brought before a justico of tho peace, he informed His honor that the man he had kicked was a lightning-rod man. The jus tice at once discharged him with the re mark: ."The man who wouldn't kick a lightning-rod man wherever he finds one, is unfit to enjoy the liberties for which Washington fought, and Thomas Paine wrote." That justico had paid five hun dred dollars for lightning rods on his house last spring. . fW A modost young man at a dinner party, the other evening, put the following conundrum : " Why are most people who eat turkey, like babies ?" No reply. The young man blushed and would have back ed out, but finally gave the reason: "Be cause they are fond of breast." Two middle-aged ladies here fainted and the re mains of the young man were carried out by the coroner on a shutter. tW Elder Bister, to her brother of about six summers : "Oh you wicked, bad boy ! put down that pipe directly, Bir, or I'll box your ears for you I" Junior brother, who has been smoking : "Box my ears if you dare I I'll go and toll papa you lot cousin Jack kiss you behind the door yesterday." N. B. A truce was agreed upon, t3T Two young ladies and Mr, Thad deus O'Grady, wero conversing on age, when one of them put the home question : " Which of us do you think the elder, Mr. O'Grady?" "Sure," replied the gallant Irishman, " you both look younger than each other." HT Visitor : " How long has your mas ter been away?" Irish footman : "Well, orr, if he'd come homo yisterday, he'd been gone a week to-morrow ; but ev he doesn't return the day afther, ulrUre he'll been away a fort-night next Thursday."
