8 STIjc imcs, Nciu J3loomftcli, )a. Terrible Domestic Tragedy. Winchester, Va., July 7. A terrible tragedy Occurred on Saturday morning at the residence of Franklin Little, a very highly respeoted citizen of Clarke county, Va., about seven miles from this place, in which six brothers, Clinton, Columbus, Gilbert, Oscar, ' Wallace, and Lycurgus were involved. It seems that tho brothers bavo been at variance for some time, the cause being jealousy that has existed di rectly between the oldest brothers, Clinton, OBcar and Lycuigus. On Saturday morning as part of the fam ily were at breakfast, Oscar and Lycurgus entered the dining room, locked the door after them, one putting the key in his pocket. Then one of them took a seat near the door ; the other off from the table. Oscar, addressing himself to Clinton, said that they had nothing against him and did not want him to interfero in what thuy were about to do. Clinton jumped from his seat, but before he could speak Oscar and Lycurgus drew their revolvers and aimed at him and the rest of the family at the table and fired, wounding Clinton and their mother. The fight then became genoral among all the brothers, lasting some min utes. . AH were severely wounded except Wallace. By this time soino of the bel ligerants had gotten outside the house. 1 Lycurgus and Oscar started to run. Col umbus drew a revolver and fired at the murderous brothers without effect, the dis tance being too great. Gilbert who was standing near ran into the house and brought a rifle, fired at Oscar at long rango, wounding him in the leg. He was captured by Columbus and Gilbert and . held until the arrival of neighbors, tie was taken to Rerryville and lodged in jail, Clinton died after lingering a couple of hours in intense agony. The mother is in a critical condition. A post mortem ex amination of the body of Clinton was held by Dm.. Bomerville, Miller and Wilson. Internal hemorrhage was found to be the cause of death, the ball entering above the right hip bone and lodging in the left knee. A coroner's inquest was hold, and a ver dict rendered that " Clinton Little came to his death by a piBtol shot, fired premeditat edly by his brother Lycurgus." The ex amination will take place at Bcrryville, Monday. The excitement is great in Clarke county agaiust the brothers Oscar and Lycurgus. Mysterious Correspondence. ' liegularly every two weeks, for the past it years, a letter has been received at the postoffice in Manchester, N. H., addressed to Dr. , evidently by the same hand The caligrapbjr is good, and is evidently that of a lady. The name is entered on the list, time after time, and no one has ever claimed them. After, lying at the of fice the time specified by law, the letters are sent, one after the other, to the dead' letter oflice at Washington. On one oc casion one of the letters was returned from the dead-letter office, because it contained some trifle of lace, which the department was desirous should be returned to the writer. The writer gave no clew as to who or what the writer was, and was sign- u impiy " Ameune. ' This name was entered on the list, but no one ever claimed the lotter or the bits of laoo. Atiotuer strange leature ot this case is that the V oldest inhabitant" has never heard of any man of the name the letters bear, and so the whole matter remains a mnmimi anxr tuiup tx ft ay. Aai A Terrible Explosion. Seventy kegs of nitroglyiceriue and seven hundred barrels of giant powder, which were stored in one of the buildings belong ing to the Cambria Coal and Mining Com pany, whose establishment is situated about one mile from the village of Bates ville, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, ex ploded on the third of July. . In the village ttie nouses rocked as u an earuiquake uwl come that way ; the breaking of window lights and the eries of frighteued women aud children were mingled in one horrible din, while at the scene of the explosion no trace could be found of the building, the barrels, the hoops or the nit'o-glycerine and powder. For a distance of five or six hundred yards around the spot where the building stood tho earth Itself had been dug out In huge trenches sixty or seventy feet deep ; great trees had been lifted, roots and all, from the places where they had been growing for years, and removed long diutances, while others were almost buriod under the vast quantity of flying dirt.- JV. J", Ihruld. ' Life In Kentucky. At Owiugsville, Kentucky, on the 3d, inst., William O. Saltei field wo placed on trial for burning that place in April last. While one iiayden was testifying in regard to being employed by Satterfleld to burn the plaoa, a brother of Satterfleld aud his friends rushed towards him with revol vers in hand, when several determined cit izens interfered and averted a collision. The court then adjourned. The next day BatterfiuliI and his friends rode into town, with double-barreled shot guus and revol vers, and were met by Mr. Uooo, the jailor, and other ' citizens. Hoon fired at Batter field, killing hiui lutUntly, when the rest of the party fled. Battel Held has been re regarded u a desperate character, and his death is not nuiuh regretted by law-abiding Citizens. ' f '.i New Advertisements.
