A man named Shiner, who lives on Adams Btrcot, had forbidden his daughter from keeping com pany with a young man who was paying attentions to her. The order caused con siderable sorrow to the young lady and gentleman, but it seems they had no idea whatever of obeying the injunction. They offended Bcvoral times, and the father be came fearfully enraged because of his daugh ter's disobedience. On Saturday evening the father was sitting at his door, and by the gaslight observed a couple walking leisurely along the sidowalk a few feet dis tant. He took this as a studied effort at defiance, and hurriedly drawing his knife from his pocket, he rushed toward the coup le, nnd bofore cither of thom had noticed his approach he stabbed the young woman twice in the back. The knife-blado enter ed just above the shouldor blade, and pro duced two painful although not dangerous wounds. As soon as she received tlio wounds the young woman screamed and fainted. The d ies attracted an immense crowd, but even before the crowd gathered Mr. Shiner dis covered that the young woman was not his daughter, but Miss Rarick. Tho murder ous assailant was immediately placod un der arrest, and is now in the Allegheny lock-up awaiting a hearing, on a charge of felonious assault and battery, which Miss Itarick has preferred against him. lie may be thankful that he is not called upon to answer a charge of murder.
