MORE OF THE DEMOCRATIC: FRAUDS.—Be
fore 11. S. CoMmissioner Biddle t -day at noon
was arraigned a Democratic ca idate for
CherrY Hill, Who was detatpd in h endea
vors to assist his party by false registratio in
order that the roughs'' and rowdies" of
New York and Baltimore might vote thereon
'at the coming election. The prisoner was ar
rested on a warrant issued on the oath of
Daniel B. Beitler, one of the canvassers of the
Sixth, division of the•NriTth Ward,- who testi
fied tat Johii' A: Armstrong, alias John A.
Reilly, alias Patrick • Mann, ,had registered
himself its - false and fictitious names: -
Daniel 11. Beitler, sworn—l assisted in the
'registry of Jno. A. Reilly, No. 1603 'Market
street. The prisoner is tho man. On the 19th
of September he came in to our place and
asked to be registhred he was qualified, and
told that any statement made; was under oath.
He said that he had lived- at 1603 Market strpet
for eight months pat. Several questiOns
were propounded, which were answered. He
stated that be was between 21 and 22 years of
"age. He got his certificate and left. A few
minutes afterwards, two other parties
came to be registered, and stated that
they lived 1609 Mau street; we examined
the list and found that a policeman, named
McConnell, lived there ;.,,refused to register
them; afterwards saw Reilly in company with
tbeM ; I told my brother canvasser, Mr. Cook
man. to watch them; I then went to 1603
Market ; there Ifound th. t Tohn A. Reilly
had never lived•there ; 1. ar •es ed Reilly at the

same a ' ernoon; he was endeavoring to get re
gister ; Mr. Thompson was one of the can

there to get registered with a boy,: I told him
to clear out ; I further told him to get two
householders as vouchers ; he-said he_ woaltl

Charles J. Engle, tiwoin—l am one of the
canvassers for the third division of the Ninth
Ward; the prisoner applied to us for registra
tion on age ; he said his name was Armstrong
and that he lived 1026 Filbert street, a 'few
doors below the Precinct House ; ave refused
to register him without the proper vouchers
being produced ; it. was the day before, he was„
arrested; we have since inquired and found
that the prisoner did net reside at 1026, but
that another gentleman named ..A.raisfrong
did.
Wm. Patterson, sworn—l am one of the
canvassers for the Eighth .division of the
Ninth Ward; I recognize the prisoner - a—l - lib
person who was registered mid/ft the name of
Jas. Redly, paperhanger. No. ;IS North
Twkmty-liaa street; born in New York in 1849
on-age: I' subsequently found that such a
person bad resided there about. a day and had
left very suddenly.
Cross-examined—Nobody vouched for him.
nor did we ask for it ; were satisfiedi OrNister:
him without vouchers: I thought I knew him;
I asked him it he did not work at Seventeenth
and Market streets, and he replied " N o!"
John Irian sworn—l alb a constable of the,
Ninth Ward I arrested the prisoner on the
19th day of September : he haa a .heariug be
fore Alderman Smith : he gave the name of
either John or James A. 1:e-illy:Pm not sure
which ; L took him up the district 'station
house :.I arrested him at the instigation of Mr.
Beitler for false voting I saw him locked in a
cell of the Sixth District &iv:ion-house Pfmt
a discharge and went down to the county .

AIDING A PRISONER TO ESCAPE,—Thomas
Merito, a Special Officer of .the Sixth Police
District, Ni;a. , arrested and taken before Ald.
Reid& upon the charge of aiding the escape
of James A. Iteilley from the Station-house.
Reilley, it will be remembered, was
committed on the charge of false registra
tion, and when he was to be brought up from
prison it was found that' man named
Chambers was substituted for him. Merito
has been held in $1,500 bail for a hearing.
LARCENY.—John - McGarry was arrested last
night, at Twenty third and Market streets, on
the charge of the larceny of ten dollars from
another man belonging to the same gang. He
was held in $5OO bail by Ald. Jones. Another
charge agaimt McGarry Will be heard at the
OentrahStation this afternoon. "- '
