CoMmissioner Biddle t -day at noon was arraigned a Democratic ca idate for CherrY Hill, Who was detatpd in h endea vors to assist his party by false registratio in order that the roughs'' and rowdies" of New York and Baltimore might vote thereon 'at the coming election. The prisoner was ar rested on a warrant issued on the oath of Daniel B. Beitler, one of the canvassers of the Sixth, division of the•NriTth Ward,- who testi fied tat Johii' A: Armstrong, alias John A. Reilly, alias Patrick • Mann, ,had registered himself its - false and fictitious names: - Daniel 11. Beitler, sworn—l assisted in the 'registry of Jno. A. Reilly, No. 1603 'Market street. The prisoner is tho man. On the 19th of September he came in to our place and asked to be registhred he was qualified, and told that any statement made; was under oath. He said that he had lived- at 1603 Market strpet for eight months pat. Several questiOns were propounded, which were answered. He stated that be was between 21 and 22 years of "age. He got his certificate and left. A few minutes afterwards, two other parties came to be registered, and stated that they lived 1609 Mau street; we examined the list and found that a policeman, named McConnell, lived there ;.,,refused to register them; afterwards saw Reilly in company with tbeM ; I told my brother canvasser, Mr. Cook man. to watch them; I then went to 1603 Market ; there Ifound th. t Tohn A. AIDING A PRISONER TO ESCAPE,—Thomas Merito, a Special Officer of .the Sixth Police District, Ni;a. , arrested and taken before Ald. Reid& upon the charge of aiding the escape of James A. Iteilley from the Station-house. Reilley, it will be remembered, was committed on the charge of false registra tion, and when he was to be brought up from prison it was found that' man named Chambers was substituted for him. Merito has been held in $1,500 bail for a hearing. LARCENY.—John - McGarry was arrested last night, at Twenty third and Market streets, on the charge of the larceny of ten dollars from another man belonging to the same gang.
