Republican Convention. — Y esterday a well attended convention of Republicans ‘ who avow themselves opposed to the negro suffrage amendment to the Constitution assembled at Salem for the purpose of nominating a candi : date for Congress from the First district pledged against extending the right of voting to the newly enfranchised citizens. Quite a large number of persons went down from Camden. •J-. R. Sailor, of Camden, called the Conven tion to order, by nominating Joseph E. Roberts, of Salem county, as President, who was elected. John W. Goforth, of Salem, was elected Secretary. The President ..then read the call for th t Convention. Nominations were called for, when Dr. Isaiah D. • Clawson, of Salem county, was nominated unanimously. J. R.
