The latter took umbrage at the reply, drew a knife, and plunged it into the'abdomen of Corkey, causing , a wound front which the entrails protruded. Sullivan and O'Leary were assaulted, but were not seriously; Injured. Quick then; walked to St. John: street, where he attacked several nremen, One of the latter knocked him down, and he was then arrested and locked up. The bloody knife was found on his person. • —William H. 'Barber, of .Frankford, came to the city on Friday last,and fell in with two men who took him to. a gambling-house in the vicinity of Ninth and Che.stnut 4treet,g, where he lost $3OO. Subseqttently he went with John Fisher and two others, to a hotel on Third street, near. Willow, where Fisher boards. Barber and the two men, at the suggestion of Fisher, were put into the same room. The next morning Barber discovered that his two "friends" were gone,`and that his coat, watch and chain, and about, $7O in money,were miss ing.• Fisher was arrested as an accomplice iu the robbery, andAvas held for a further hearing by Alderman Kerr. —nte residence of 'Mr. James Searlet, ilantilton street, above Twenty-third, was entered on Friday evening and robbed of four one hundred dollar Government bonds and sixty dollars. About the time of the robbery a man was seen to jump over the fence attached to the house, and he is supposed to have got into a second-storyi window, as, the bonds were taken from asmail box in a ward robe on the second floor. —Rev; George Jones, a chaplain of. the United States Navy, died at the United States Naval ASylum, in this city, where he was on duty, on Saturday, in the 70th year of f )* age. Chaplain Jones was a resident of New York when appointed, many years ago, iu the navy, and was retired on the 30th of July, 1302. He, stood second on'the'llst in- 'order of Seniority. —Margaret Fletcher, cilored; was cOmmitted. on Saturday, by Alderman Kerr, on the charge of assault and battery on ' Rose Mealey, re siding in louth's 'court; near 'Eighth aid Ship pea streets. The two had a quarrel. Rose threatened to split open the head of Margaret, and Margaret then !threw a kettle "of boiling soup, into the face of Rose. ' —The Committee' on.
