CITY BVLUSTIM. O’U« Fellows' AyjfAniB.-rThc newspapers. In-announcing'iliojcrccilpn of a spacious hall at the corner of Broad aiid Cherry streets for "the use of the fraternity of Odd FelloWS. made a mistake: The sulijGcFbf building an Immehse bail has long been Oontciuplated, but thotisandsof.members of the Order ml lula delphia do not, favor the project. . •< , The subject Of to widows and orphans of Odd Fellows has „ been revived again, and wo learn that some 01 ■ tlie lodges have considerable sums of money already for the purpose. The general Juan that Seems to meet with considerable lav or is to purchase a large area of ground sotuowlieru in the interior of the State, and fronting, it possible, on or near a public Jugbway. t-' ftsyhun is to be very large, with „ • farms and gardens. The Odd 1 odowa of the State of Pennsylvania are to contributoto tUo enterprise voluntarily in sums to suit tlie convenience. All that is required w a. httlo cnenrv, and the asvHim.wiU speedily becotne • v .oneo? the lixed institutions ofPemwy£««a; ’ Incorporated with it will be s °k°ok wherein ■to educate the orphans in accordance with the *cardiiial prinoiplefu)f a Great Annoyance.— There should be somo arrangement made, by the passengerrai - road companies to prevent tlie opening of the front doors of the cars in motion, especially at this season of the year. The cold air rushing ■; through tho cars when the conductors open the doors in order to collect the fares Irom persons riding on the front platforms, makes all the passengers feel uncomfortable, and it gives some of them heavy make rapid inroads upon their constitutions. As lone as the companies allow passengers to ride oil the fronfof the cars tM msldo riders will probably ho more or less subjected to the aforesaid annoyance. .We have seen cars &o blocked with passengers that the conductors had to reach the front platforms by way of the street If this should be adopted upon all oc casions, then the opening of tlio front door? could very easily he avoided, and passengers be the better protected duriug the cold and m clement season. • S P C. A.—There is a subject' scarcely ever noticed, and yet it is worthy of the attention of the society for tho protection of animals. Some Of the poultry dealers are in the habit of bringing to Philadelphia on evert market day live chickens cooped up m There is hardly room enough in them for the chickens to move so as to bo relieved from any painful position, But worso than this. Lastwinter the weather, became intensely cold iust before Christmas;hundreds of cooped un ci'ickeiis were subjected to its severity in tlie open streets and market places, and, ot course, frozen nearly to death before Jhe removed to places of shelter, how that the cold weather will soon .set in, a few words from the S. P. C. A. would prevent, thoughtless dealers permitting their live chickens to re main cooped in small boxes on tho sidewalks of our streets. ■ Bridgino the Delaware.— A party of srentlcmen in Camden .county arc taking fmtiative measures towards forming a com pany to buUd a bridge from the Jersey shore SppasUe Pavonia lsland. Prom the island they then design to establish a ferry to Philadelphia. During the coming session of the New Jersey Legislature, an application lm £ade for the passage of an act giving legal authority to carry out the project. This vvill boa great advantage to those who do business in the upper ena of the city. ’ ItoimiN-o SohoolChildrenl— There seems to be a system of petty pilfering put into practice almost daily m the of Seven teenth and Coates streets. The scholars who attend thepublie schools in that robbed of pennies, slate pencils a "' i .^, l ‘ at may chance to have in their pockets. This pilfering is committed by half-grown ragged DOVB, whose culture seems to be neg lected; ‘ A Snow Storm.—' The weather yesterday was not verv agreeable. Snow fell almost the entire day%it in the city the flakes melted as thev came down. At Chestnut Hill, this morning, snow to the depth of two inches was'up on the p-ound. The cars which came in on the Beading Railroad to-ilay were cov ered with snow, showing that the storm was heavier in the interior than it was here. ’ IiARCEHT of a Buffalo Koiie. Drank Guvs was arrested last evening at bt .l oUn and Cailowhill streets, on the charge of the lar ceny of a buflalo roho from the carriage of Georee Tallmann. When arrested he had the stolen robe in his possession. Guys will have a hearing at the Central Station this after noon. When he observed the officer he jumped out of the wagon and ran into a house, but was pursued and captured. He was committed by Aider man Kerr. ’ Bequest to the German Hospital.— John Klingler, a German, who has no relatives iu this country, died recently in this city, and in his will, which was admitted to probate to day, bequeathed bis property to the German Hospital. His estate is valued at about SSOO. The Deer a-FFairmount.—A big dog got into the deer inclosure at Fairmount Park early yesterday morning, and badly injured one of the young deers. One of the old ann mals escaped yesterday, and after an exciting ukase was captured urar the Colunibm bridge. Factory J. McKee, employed in the establishment oi Barton H. Jenks,’ near Bridesburg, had a leg broken by the machinery on Friday last. He was taken to his home, Mill street, Frankiord, by the ambulance of the Washington Fire Company. Open Doors.— Lieutenant Henderson, of the First District Police, reported this morn ing that ten doors were found unfastened in his District last night, and Lieutenant Bru rciu reported nine. __ Alleged Wieeßeateh.— Francis O’Neill, residing in the rear of No. 0 Moore street, First Ward, lias been committed by Alderman Collins to answer the charge ot assault and battery on his wife Stolen Pipe. —A negro was arrested this morning’ at Eighth and Walnut streets on suspicion of having stolen a .lot of lead pipe, which ho had in liis possession.' He will have a hearing this afternoon at the Central Station. Beckless Driving..— William Johnson was arrested hist evening, at Front and Mas ter streets, on the charge of reckless driving. . He was lined $5 by Alderman Eggletou. Stable Boiihed.— A stable on Coates street, below Twenty-second, was brokeu into early on Saturday morning, and was robbed of two sets of harness. Curtains.— Every man of taste at the pre sent day regardgliandsome curtains as essen tial to the decoration of his parlor and library and bedrooms, as rieb carpets or elaborate furniture. The time for the old-iashioned venitian blinds with their clatter and con stant accumulations of dust, has passed away. Curtains tastefully draped are cheaper and move beautiful; and when they are procured from a bouse-- which devotes -itself to- the artistic manufacture and arrangement of cur libey will give satisfaction to the most fastidious taste and an air of elegance to the apartments adorned by them. Mr. I. E. Wal raveu, of Ho. Till Chestnut Htreet, has devoted his life to curtains, and ho lias succeeded iu nrocuring a stock which for variety, beauty and cheapness cannot be surpassed anywhere. The styles advertised by Wairaven include satin, damask, broeiitelle, figured silk, plain silk, and wool .in all colors; he has also an enormous assortment of lace curt;uns, from the idainest to the most elaborate, from the lowest Bribed to the most’-expensive. Most of these • «»ooils are of entirely now designs, all of them Ire beautiful, and the prices will -compare favorably with those ot any other similar • iotablishment on the globe. Besides his Phila delphia bouse, Mr; Wairaven has a large store in New. Fork city, and thc-re, as here,Tie has reputation of which lie is justly proud. uTiose of our-leaders who desire to purchase curtains Of »Py description, or to procure r.iaiio or table covers, or eider-down quilts,_ or anv Of the multitude oi articles which iw> ? found in a first-class establishment Mndfshould call upon Mr..Wairaven. anybody and any purse. to Compete for a s6w» : THE COURTS, tiiktutct Court— Judge Haro.—-John B. dS3K°v“l«» ofgooa«,»2S5 1 r«M marroaw, Wilson vs, Simon Levine.
