Mr. Jenks stated. that 10,000 of the 'books
had been circulated, and somebody was making
a nice profit off the job.
Mr. Freeborn complained that the Commit
tee had overstepped their authoritY in discharg
ing a Musk!. teacher without authority of the
Board. He moved the whole subject be; re
committed to the Committee, and that hereaf
ter, when a charge is made against a music

"Mr. Wetherill cousideted the • work 'a • •text
book, and did not' think the'subjeet'of admitting
it or not into the'SehiSOlB apart of the nusiness
of the Committee on Revision of Studies. He
thought by adopting the report of the commit
tee the Board would, to, a great exteut,c6mmit
itself in favor of the admission of the work,
which lie was not prepared to do. The book
was full of advertisements of publishing-houses,
contrary to the meaning and intention of the
Board, and the words of some of the songs had
been pronounced objectionable.
Mr. Freeborn withdrew his motion,. and
Mr. Elkin moved,that sct,much of the report as

Mr. Steinmetz then moved the ridei he sus
pended for the purpose of allowing the admis

moved to lay the *hole subject on the table,
which was agreed to.
Mr. Wetherill offered a resolution abolishing
the Committee on Revision of Studies, and re
ferring the subject of music in the Public
Schools to the Joint- Committees' on Text

THE PHILADELPHIA BAPTIST ASSOCIA.-
TiorT.=Tbe 102 d session of this Association
was commenced 'yesterday afternoon in the
Memorial Baptist Church, Master street, near
Broad. After devotional exercises, Rev. G. A.
Peitz, Moderator of the last session, called the
Association to order. The ineroductoty ser
mon was then preached by Rev. Mr. Peitz,
after which a 'collection was taken up for the
incidental expenses. Rev. G. H. Peters, pastor
of the Third Baptist Church, was elected
Moderator, and Horatio Gates Jones, Esq.,
Secretary.
Letters were read from the different churches,
showing the following figures

The water in : the, Wissahickon yesterday
afternoon had fallen so as to be confined
w ithin its banks, and the meadow between the
creek and the Schuylkill .7 Wis again cleaeof
water. • The old stone bridge crossing the
creek at Dobson!s mill is hut slightly damag,ed,
and the mill ' of Dobson" was again in
operation: yesterday, the damage by the flood
being confined to the lower story of the mill.
At Spring MillS,on the Norristown Railroad,
the water was very high, and the Northern
Iron Furnace Of Daniel and Henry llitner
and the Moorhead Clay Works were inun
dated. no damage at Conshohocken?by the
flooding of the mills was also very consider
able; Therwater at Norristown was nISo yery
No; and one of the platforms in the depot at
that place was covered. •
The rencoyd Iron Works, reported to have
suffered heavy loss by, the freshet; will lose
nothing, and resumed operations yesterday
morning. About a square 'from' the

The cellars.of Barclay, Sa Barclay, :Linseed
Oil manufacturers; No. 184 and 138 -'North
Wharves, were overflowed, and the floor of the
boiler room.:CoVered with 'about eighteen
inches of , water, causing the fires to be ex
tinguished. They estimate their loss at $4OO.
S. Lathbury & Co., NO. 120 North Wharves,
produce dealers, suffer a loss by water of $B5O.
CroWell & SMVen's, CoMmission Merchants,
No. 122 Nortli'WharVes, lose abeitt $lOO by
the water, which covered the first floor,
The cellar of Harding , & Bros., No. 112, was
overflowed, and considerable damage done the
goods. The loss will probably reach about
$2OO.
The cellar and front floor of, the.oil store of
G.A. Landoll Sr, Co. were overlioited, arid the
stock considerablY, injured.
The Baltimore Ericsson Steamboat- ;Line

Thdrnas Hughes was born in 1824, son - of
Thomas Hughes, 'of Donnington Prfory,
