Quarren Sr.r,BloN6—Judge Ludlow.—This morning, among the Lases heard on habeas corpus, was ope in which a young lady was charged with the larceny of two shawls. tier father was the prosecutor, and, from his own statement, it appears that the shawls belonged to the deceased mother of the girl, and that the charge grew oat of the tact that the daughter, who was about to be married, walked out one day and took the pro perty with her. Judge Ludlow, in severe terms, rebuked the father for his e ff orts to brand hie daug hter as a thief under the circumstances, and he ordered her immediate discharge. Orra 111‘1.) JOKE ON PRESIDENT GRANT:- A gentleman meeting Mr. Wallace S. Grant on the street, yesteiday. asked him why he was a greater man than the President? • indeed, I cannot tell" modestly replied Mr. G. A MOST striking proof of the progressive spirit of the times may be seen in the marvelous perfection of that rematkable invention, the AMERICAN BUTTON BOLE .AND SEWING MACHINE, when compared with any of the old mechanisms in this line. The rapid development of improvement as seen in this new and splendid machine, and the astounding degree of ex cellence attained, are, indeed, almost incredible. And what Is most gratifying in this connection is the fact that this Is altogether a Philadelphia institution, the Company be.lig located here, with their factory at Twentieth and Washington avenue, and SALESROOMS S. March 19 We have once or twice referred to the reports in citculation as to the offer of a high place in the Cabinet to Mr. Wilson, of lowa. We now learn upon authority which is not to be questioned that the President offered to Mr. Wilson first the State Department, and then three other places successively. To this almost unexampled solici tation, which shows so strongly the President's desire to call to his side a gentleman whom the public was ready to welcome to the Cabinet, Mr. Wilson felt himself compelled to return a final negative. IMl=i2l $l,OOO REWARD DETECTING COUNTERFEITER ELMBOLD'S BUCHU HOW TO DETECT IT. The Genuine has my Name and Address Blown in Three Sides of Bottle; THE COUNTERFEIT HAS NOT. Unquestionably the business has boon carried on for some time, and to a considerable extent, and the selling has been managed by exports. who dopend upon the ex ternal appearance, without regard to the quality or con tents of the bottle. My conclusion is that the expensive wrappers were stolen, or a transfer of the original plate taken by a dig. honest engraver. • 1 have been in consultation with the leading Glass Works in regard to it, and they assert that they have never made any bottles for any one the pattern of the sourions. I have purchased all my bottles, for twelve Years, from Messrs. Bheete di Duffy. Kensington Glass Works. and each and every bottle has the following plainly blown on three Bides of the bottle: "H. T. HELM BOLD'S GENUINE FLUID. EXTRACTS. PHILADEL. FRIA." THE SPUMOUS HAS NOT, and in the genu ine the lettering can be felt without removing the wrap per, in a majority of cases. My name and address ie not blown in the spurious, and I have never used any bottle without this precaution. Thus far it is evident that the SPURIOUS has emanated from SMALL JOBBERS or PEDDLERS, of various preparations, who, when questioned, reply "that they lever take bills or receipts when procuring their sup. plies," which causes difficulty in tracing. My Buchu is no patent medicine or secret concoction but a superior preparation. a concentrated fluid extract of the ()Moms Crenate) Buchu Leaves. Any druggitt, phyeician or patient thatta at all familiar with the properties of the Buchu Leaves would have no difficulty in DETECTING THE FRAUD, as not the slightest regard has been paid to the contents of the spu rious bottles, but simply a colored liquid with little taste or odor. A very important item to druggists is that quite a quail. tity of the spurious has already fermented, and such a result has never occurred to the genuine. I cannot imagine what impreeslon the afflicted may have formed of me, who have been so unfortunate as to have pur chased the spurious, or the injury done my name and business by this counterfeh.,which possesses no medicinal virtues vi hatever. But my friendly relations and cxten sive acquaintance in the trade, and the precautions have taken, will prevent its recurrence, I will greatly appreciate it if the druggists will examine their stock at once and report. 1 WILL MOTE() I" //UCH FROM LOBS, AND WILL CAUSE TO BE ARRESTED DEAL. ERS FOUND WITH THE SPURIOUS. FROM THIS DATE. Any information derived leading to detection will be tbaatctully zeceived. and receive a rewara of ONE TIiOUAAND'DOLLARS. H. T.
