The Philadeliffils Annual Conference of the edaEr EPEraspal-Chrirch-convened-tta_B24_ ' a:Wks in 'the Union M. E. Church, of this city, Allis morning, Bishop E. Thompson presiding. The place of meeting is one of oar churches, rich in ifs assoolalions ; organized about 1800 as an offishot from St.•George'e. The present edifice was built over thirty years ago, an more sessions .of Conferences have been held within Its walls than it: any other in the denomination. The present session makes the fourteenth time the - church has been thus favored. Sixty-one sessions have been held in the city. The first ses sion was held in Lit. george'r: July 14-15, 1 773, Thomas Rankin presiding. In 1796, the territory of the Conference embraced all that no r in cluded in the Wyoming, Newark, New Jersey and ;Wilmington Conferences, and part of the Genesee Conference. ' In 1836 the New Jersey part of the °work was made a separate Conference. The Conference was left With 115 ministers. Since then it has grown to 299. At the General Conference held in Chi cago, May, 1868, it was diminished by the forma braces a ll of Conference, which em all of Delaware, Eastern Shore lof Mary land, and two counties in Virginia. The present number is 189. The territory of the present conference Ilea be tween the Schuylkill and Susquehanna rivers— including Philadelphia. Chester, Delaware,Backs, Montgomery, Schuylkill, Berke, Dauphin, Lan caster, Lebanon, Lehigh, Northampton, Carbon and Monroe counties. The fathers of the Con ference: Rev. J. P. Durbin, D. D., who entered the ministry in 1819; Rev. C. Cook, D. D. 1820; Bev. T. B. Ayers, 1822; Rev. J. Castle, D. D. 1823; Rev. A. Atwood.lB2s; Rev. W. Cooper, D D., 1828; Rev. John Edwards, 1831; Rev. C. J Crouch 1883. In this annual greeting is missed from the nalthit of the brethren, Rev. F. Moore, D. D., of Pottsville. This beloved minister is in Florida, seeking a restoration of health. May his valued life be spared many years to bless the Church. Also, Rev. C. Walters, who, fully ripe through grace, is watching at the gates of death. Daring the year Dave gone home to God, Rev. H. M. Johnson, D. D., Rev. R. M. Greenbauk, Rev. H. F. Huin, Rev. A. Johns, Rev.S. S.Grove and Rev. D. George. The President of the Conference, Rev. E. Thompson, D. D., presides for the first time. He was elected to the Episcopacy in 1864. Prior to that he spent fourteen years as President of the Ohio Wesleyan University, Delaware, Ohio. In 1864, le was elected editor of the Christian Ado,- eats and Journal; from thence to his present position. Since his elevation to the Episcopacy he has visited the work in Oregon, California and Washington Terltory. Also, missionary work in China, India, Bulgaria, Germany, Ste. As a presiding officer he is dignified, courteous, clear, and sufficiently prompt in his decisions. Conference was called to order at nine o'clock. Religions services were conducted by the pre siding officer, Bishop Thompson, consisting of reading the Scriptures, selecting the fourteenth chapter of John. The hymn "I love thy king dom, my Lord," was sung. 'After which, by re quest of the presiding officer,Rev. A . Atwood and Rev. C. Cooke, D. D., le in prayer. The brethren acknowledged the mercies of the past, thanking the Lord for the peace and prosperity of the year. They commended to the care of God the-brethren severed from us and meeting in Conference at the same hour in Wilmington,DeL The widows and orphans of the deceased bre thren Were not forgotten. The Bishop then addressed the Vonference, after which the roll was called by the Secretary of the last Conference. Rev. Robert H. Pattison, D. D., was re-elected Secretary. His brethren, deeming him worthy , of all honor. have called him to this position for the eleventh time. In this respect he has been in the advance In the history of the Conference,with the exception of Rev. W. A. Wiggins, who was Secretary for thirteen years. The Secretary nominated as his Assistants, Rev. G. W. Lybrand, Rev. A. M. Wiggins, and Revl W. J. Paxson. Nine o'clock was fixed es the hour for con vening, and 12 o'clock, M., as the hour for ad journment. .The Presiding Elders reported the nominations for the usual Standing Committees, which were on motion confirmed. FATAL PALL.—A lad, named John Crooks, 16 years of age, employed In the store of Winches ter & Co., No. 706 Chestnut street, Wetl y killed this morning. He bad weal= to go to the fourth story of the building and wont up on the dumb-waiter. He then found the door of the room lockett.-- In order to get into the room, he got out of the window on the staircase and at tempted to step across" to the window opening into the room. His foot slipped on some. ice which was on the window ledge, and he fell to the pavement. The deceased resided at No. 633 Sylvester street, in the Flint Ward. FEMALE MARKET THlEW.—Aranetta Barredy was arrested this Morning by Policeman Reeder in the Farmers' Market. She had been watched by the officer, and was seen to , take a pound of butter from one of the stalls. She had with her a bag containing meat, potatoes and other articles, which had probably been stolen. The prisoner was locked up for a .urther hearing. . ABSAI7LTIN6 A POLICEMAN.—James Dougherty was arrested at Sixth and Chestnut streets, this morning, for disorderly conduct. Then, it is al leged, he struck Policeman Way an the head with a blackjack. William Smith and William Robins interfered on behalf of Dougherty, and were ar rested by Policemen Stewart and Bean. Robins had a revolver in his.pocket. The threeprisoners wore committed by Alderman Hibbard. A Douala Asseum—An Englishman named John Jones, residing at Front and Union streets, was arrested yesterday for beating his wife. Af ter being taken into custody, he assaulted Po liceman Seigrist. Alderman Carpenter commit ted Jones in default of $1,200 bait. STEALING FROM A WAGON.—Edward Reilly stole forty pound's of dour out of the wagon of Jacob Leidy, at Franklord and Master streets, yesterday.
