BARIIMMr. yoUrq man named. William Griffiths has been arrested by Detective James P. Webb, - upon the charge of having robbed James L. Rogan, of New York. Mr. Rogan was a guest at the Continental motel at Long Branch, some time since, and its room was entered at an early hour in the morning. His watch was taken from his vest , pocket, a set of diamond studs were taken out of his shirt,and his pocket-book,containing upwards of $BOO, was abstracted from the pocket of his pantaloons. Griffiths was captured at Altoona, and had the stolen watch in his possession at the time. ,The studs had been hidden away in Pittsburgh, end were also recovered.. The money had teen nearly all expended. Griffiths is at the Central Station, awaiting a requisition' for his removal to New Jersey. Burros= Bunemens CAPTURRIN—Two men - named Andrew Squibb and George Hoffman - were observed prowling about the neighborhood of Nineteenth and Girard avenue about one o'clock this morning. As they were known to the police as not bearing the beat of characters they were arrested, and in their possession a lot of skeleton keys and a screw-driver were foand. In the immediate vicinity a dark lantern was picked up. The prisoners were taken to the Cen tral Station, and will have a hearing as the Cen tral Station this afternoon. ASSAVIZING A WOMAK.—John Connelly, alias Roddy Rush, was before Alderman Tittermary this morning upon the charge of assault and battery. It seems that a woman entered a house at Penn and South streets, yesterday afternoon, and attempted to steal something. The occu pant of the house, a. woman, seized the thief. Connelly, it is alleged, rushed to the rescue of the latter, and knocked down the other woman, The thief escaped, but got no plunder. Connelly was committed for trial. PIIINTFA MISSINGI.-J. M. Andrew O'Kane, Jr. who is alleged to have fired the shot, Is still rit large. The pollee, how ever, are .making every effort to ascertain his whereabouts. A 'HANDSO3IE BADGE.-Mr. John H. Caldwell Bpeclal Officer on the Camden and Atlantic Halt road, was, a few evenings since, presented with a handsome badge. The badge is in the shape of a shield, and is of solid gold. It was gotten up and presented by the employs of the road, as a token of the esteem in which Mr. C. is held by them. Futr--A dwelling house opposite Megargee's old mill, on the Wissahickon, took lire about half-past eight o'clock last evening, and the up per portion and roof were destroyed. STEALING WASHED CLOTHING. —James Welsh was arrested this morning by Policemen Elusion and Scheetz, at Fifth and Carpenter streets, with a lot of washed clothing in his possession.
