Drink the tamons Arctic Soda Water and read the Evening Bulletin, at Hillman’s News Stand, at North Pennsylvania Depot One Hear of tbe sew Dominion. [From the Montreal Witness, ol July 8.) ■ 1 Our Dominion is now a year old. How does 'it work ? In Canada we have appointed for it a •day of rejoicing. Bnt has onr rejoldng been the bounding poise of national life, or simply the comfort of being off work on a hot day ? Every : one can n -w judge for himself whether the feel •.'ings drawA forth by such an occasion are closely akin or ntn to those manifested by our nelgh \tors on the 4th this month, or by ourselveß on the Queen’s birthday. Yonng Canada, at least, should feel tt : i consdonsness of na tional life, if there were anything to draw it forth; bat. wanting this, the sentiment seemß to be but shallow. Most people seem to look upon It as a matter chiefly interesting to the po litical schemers with whom it originated. Very •differentis the state of attain) ‘j .ova Sco'la. There they grind their teeth inv or ntarily wher •’ ever the word coniederatlon Is mentioned. The state of feeling is described by well informed V people there as being too deep for utterance, and, as it takes the form of a wide-ep.-f'd and . -deep-seated movement toward annexatioc, it is not to be woDdered that public expressions should be much more guarded than private ones .That a storm is brewing there seems very , likely to be an established fact before . next Dominion Day. The desire of Great I ■ Britain to preserve}the loyalty of her colonial sub jects, and the integrity of her empire, whatever it may amount to, appears to have been of late smothered among what were to Englishmen weightier matters, and bo advocate for a betrayed Province could be found but in Mr. Bright, an acknowledged revolutionist, who, it is possible would ©Meet very liftie to the annexation of all the Provinces to the United. States. It 1b to be hoped that wisdom, if no; justice, will prevail among our own legislators,*and that, instead of denying thejnost patent facts, they will set them-, selves to conciliate by liberal measures the tions of their fellow-citizens so grievously'out raged, and save their pet scheme,, and ns as a people, from irretrievable ruin.
