One of the most terrible accidents that has taken place in onr city for some time past, oc curred about half-past 10 o’clock yesteraay. , Airman Catholic Bociety inthe-North Divi sion are erecting a building on Franklin street, south of North to be call the Alezan- lnAvorldng On- the buildhig -were ten masons or bricklayers. Yesterday forenoon they were at work putting up a heavy cornice to fin ish the building, which is five stories in height. In some way as yet unexplained, that part ot the masonry already laid became loosened, and the entire upper part of the wall, including the cornice, gave wav, precipitating bricks,- mortar, cornice,, and five Of the workmen to the, ground—a distance of some fifty feet. The agonizing groans of the wounded men speedily attracted to the spot a crowd of sympathising friends who did all in their power to alleviate their sufferings.
