Lsorote difsrozon.—lt will be perceived, by re form° to oar advertising coiumne, that on Wednesday userpom at, Concert Hall, a fine musical entertain ment is to be given by a number of our resident pro fessors °finale for the benefit of Dr.LeoPold Mignon, a gentleman whose name has for many years been SS waited with most of our prominent musical Institu tions. To his untiring efforts a large part of the groat admire made in our midst in musical /cnowledge and appreciation must be attributed. Long distinguished pos t able theorist and teacher of harmohy and com posi among his pupils may be enumerated a large majority of our most eminent professors. France life was spent as a conscript in the armies o Ile passed throtigh all the dangers of Napoleons Ras eine campaign, and was twice wounded on the field of Waterloo. When discharged from service he ibttnd himself alone in the streets of Parte, totally without resources. The leader of the band of the regiment in which he had served befriended him, and be was ad mined as a pupil in the famed Conservatoire of that city, where he completed his musical education. Hav ing been induced to come to the United States,he took np his abode in Philadelphia. and for nearly forty years has resided here. Overtaken by the infirmities of age, he has recently been stricken y mralyis,'and ie, in a great measure, incapacitated from future mental exertion. Under these dram etances he certainly has strong claims not only on the friends of music, but upon all who feel an interest in the adianeettlll contribute country in science and art. Let all, then, a helping hand, and =stain our city's reputation for benevolence, that shall the proceeds of the concert to a sum that shall prove a enbstantial benefit. Every performer has velanteered; even the ushers and door-Iceepers have pressed for ward to pay their tribute of esteem to Dr. Meignea and the members of the old Musical Fund Society, o the Harmonic and the other associations he has con ducted in previous jeers, should make a point of at tending at Concert Hall to-morrow afternoon. Mr. Sartorls violin solo was encored; Mr. Thunder's, for the piano, would have been but for its length, and it deserved it. Mr. Habelman'ti solo was also encored, and Mr. liarldmes narrowly escaped, and so on throughout the programme, which was selected with judgment and taste. Mr. Habelman was never in better voice, and sang with much feeling and power. Carl Sentz's orchestra, which is now indiapensable in first-class concerts, was very efOcient and gave in creased eclat to the occasion. Few, who heard its performance of the overture to Dinorah, conjointly with the large chorus fine effect Society, can ever forget its transcendently fine effects. The female chorus, from Wallace's opera of Lnrline, showed the courage of the bold conductor, Jean Louis, in producing sec an effort. The instrumentation, said to be by D Cunnington. from a piano-forte copy, was bean In fact, closing our remarks, we must congr late this young society in having opened its season so satisfactorily and brilliantly. 1 Its success for the re maining concerts is now established.
