They consisted, of awards of Premiums, and other 'honOrs, to the pupils who bad • distinguised themselves in scholarship, music and handicraft. In the Literary Department; the "Birch Pre mium" (a pin-type writing apparatus), was awarded to six pupils of highest ,standing in the senior classes, and a copy of the New Testament• in the raised print, to eight pupils of next highest standing. Awards of books were made to pupils in the junior classes, for good seliniarShip, and for success in music—and also, silver and bronze medals• for skill In various kinds of handicraft. The 'exercises were of a highly interesting ' character, and attended by a very large audience. The awards were made, in behalf of the managers, by Franklin Peale, Esq., President of the Institu, tion. .Etfoils - are being •filade to enlarge the Li brary for the •Blind, by Printing books lo the wised letter; and, looking to the success of many of the pupils in acquiring a knowledge of the higher branches of Literature and Science, the subject of providing a classical and collegiate course of instruction is receiving favorable con sideration. William Ellis, Esq., was appointed foreman of 11w Grand Jury. Judge Peirce urged the jury to prepare as speedily as possible the prison cases, in order that the Court could 'dispose of them at once. Reference was made to the tact that the prison now contains a large number ofpersona awaiting trial, and It was desirable that all these cases should be heard at an early day. Excuses. for petit jurors were heard, and atter allowing several to depart, a large number of hills of indictment, charged with selling liquor without a license, were called.
