A New City Charter.—' The city charter of Camden has become so lumbered up with amendments and supplements that its origi nal provisions have been rendered nearly obsolete, A proposition has been made to provide the city with a new one sufficiently comprehensive and fall to meet all the emergencies andrequirementsofthatrapldly increasing city. The lawyers themselves can scarcely tell what provisions are or are ai s not operative at the present time. After the new charter has been drawn up by persons competent for the task, it is to be submitted to a vote of the people for ratifi cation, at an election which may be ordered for that purpose. This is a measure which ought to be accomplished at as early and practical a day as possible, for the interests of the city demand it. The Soldiers’ Monument.— The work on the monument recently erected to the soldiers from Camden county, who fell in tke battles for freedom, is now completed. It is a creditable memento to their bravery, but its location should have been within the court house enclosure. That is the most suitable place. Going Ahead.— The good citizens of Millville, Cumberland county, who have tbefntnre educational interests of the rising generation at heart', are taking measures to e> tablish night schools in that thriving village. Haddonfield.— The Ladies’ Union of the Haddonfield Baptist Church are making preparations to give a grand sapper in the Town Hall, on Thursday next, the proceeds of which will be applied to purposes of be nevolence. The Parks.— The cold weather has given the lovers of ice andskating rare'opporiuni ties for enjoyment by the opening of the parks, all of which have been placed in ex cellent condition. - CHRISTMAS PRESENTS FOR THE HOLIDAYS.
