FROM NEW YORE. NEW YoRE, Nov. 30.—Thanksgiving Day was very generally obs.irved in the Metro politan district yesterday. Various compa nies appeared in parada, and several target .excursions took place. Dinner was given by the city Wards in the charitable institu •tions, and, although the weather was very wet and disagreeable, many enjoyed drives over the various roads and other outdoor exercises. The Rev. Lyman Abbott preached yes terday in the New England church on re• +construction. Re said there was no reason for bribing the Southern aristocracy to allow impartial suffrage. It should be de creed. Dr. Cheever delivered a sermon on the Consititutional amendment, and Rev. Henry Ward Beecher discoursed on the South and its future. Services were also held in most of the other churches of the A large crowd occupied the sidewalk in front of the Fenian headquarters all day yesterday, in expectation of hearing farther news from Ireland. Col. Kelly was in at tendance at the office, and was busily en gaged in receiving contributions of arms and money. • A gentleman, who refused to give his name to the public, handed in a check of $l,OOO, and other large sums were received from different parts of the Union. Des _patches were received from England, giving an encouraging account of the movement there. It is thought by Col. Kelly that the _alarm of the British Government is caused as much by its accidental discovery that the Fenian organization exists in great strength in England as it is by the attitude of the _men ittlreland. There was a large assemblage of the friends of Irish liberty at Temperance Hall, on Hamilton avenue, Brooklyn, last even - ing. While the meeting was in progress a company of sixty men entered the Hall, bearing at their head a transparency with the inscription: "Gowanus, First Company •of Volunteers of the Army of Ireland." Tey received a warm greeting. The steamer William Cook ran down and dashec to pieces a small sloop yacht in the Kills, between Staten Island and Bergen Point, last evening. Cries for help were heard from the water, but owing to the de lay in getting the lifeboats overboard no rescues were made. It is not known how many persons were On board the sloop. The Herald gives the following account of the latest city railroad trouble: In the Her ald of yesterday a notice appeared stating that orders had been issued to the police to arrest any person engaged in tearing up the streets for the purpose of laying new rail road tracks. This order was issued in con sequence of information received by Super intendent _Kennedy that an attempt would be made during yesterday to lay a new rail road, but whereabouts he could not ascer tain. Accordingly the order was telegraph ed to the various precincts, and the police were on the lookout. About half-past two o'clock yesterday morning gangs of laborers crossed the Fallon ferry, bearing with them implements of warfare, such as picks, axes, crowbars, spades, shovels, carts, lanterns,&c. Arriving at Pearl street, the men under the leadership of John N. Kehoe were sta tioned in proper position to commence hos tilities. The police informed Mr. Kehoe of the orders they had received, so that the work in that quarter wag suspended, but all hands started for Pearl and Whitehall streets, to resume operations. Mr. Kehoe appeared at the first district • police station and informed Sergeant Cherry that he was about to lay a railroad track from Whitehall street, through Pearl street to New Bowery. The Sergeant told him that he certainly would be arrested. Kehoe, however, ap peared determined to proceed, and again 'disposed his force to commence business. No sooner had they commenced than four of them, including Mr. Kehoe, were arrested, and later in the morning brought before Judge Dowling. The Judge refused to interfere in the case, and sent the men to Superintendent Ken nedy. The Superintendent sent them back - to the Court with the statement that he had ordered their arrest in consequence of the authority which Corporation CounselO'Gor wan had implied lay with the police of stop ping any attempt to lay railroad tracks in the streets. Superintendent Kennedy did not think he had any authority to discharge the men and he ordered Sergeant Cherry to bold the men until farther orders. Yesterday afternoon Mr. Kennedy consulted Aar. A. 'Oakey Hall, counsel for the police, as to what he should do in the matter, and was , advised by Mr. Hall to discharge the men after taking their names and residences, so :that they could be found when wanted. The form is the strongest known; its strength to resist Internal Pressure:very great—unweakened as it is b v mutating or riveting, which lessens the strength of the wrought. Iron boiler plate about forty per cent. .15.Ters. holler Is tested by hydraulic pressure at 800 pounds to the square loch. IT CANNOT BE BI7EST UNDER ANY PEACTICA.• BLE STEAM PRESSURE. under p, esaure which might cause rupture in ordin ary b, Hers, every joint in this becomes a safety valve. No other steam generator possesses this property of railer under extreme pressure without injury to itself, at diloas preventing disaster. It is not seriously aft: cted by corrosion, which so soon impairs the strength of the wrought iron boiler, it has economy in fhel, equal to the best boilers. t gets up steam quickly, at d with little fnel—pro duces super: eated steam without separate apparatus, and is not liable to priming or foaming. it is easily transported, and may be taken apart so that no piece need welsh more teem elgh , y pounds. In difficult places of access, the largest boiler may be put through an opening one - foot square. It Is readily cleaned inside and oat. Under ordinary circumstances it is kept free from permanent deposit by blowing the water entirely out under full pressure once a week. It requires no special ski tin its management. Injured parts can be renewed wiffi great facility, as they are uniform In shape and size. WLen renewed the entire boiler remains ss good as new. The greater part of the boiler will never need renewal, unless unfairly used. A boiler can be increased to any extent by simply adding to its width, and being the multiplication of a single term, its strensh remains the same for all sizes. It has less weight and takes less than one-half the ground area of the ordinary cylinder boiler, without being increased In height. Any kind oe fuel may be used under this boiler, from the most expensive, to refuse coal dust. Over two hundred of these boilers are now in opera tion, some of them in the beat establishments in this city.
