FVITY BULLETIN. A JuvBNILE WITNESS. . —This morning at the hearing of a case before Alderman Jones, several youths were examined as witnesses. One lad, apparently about twelve years of age, was placed on the stand and'a bible was handed to him. It is al ways nsual,in such cases, for the magistrate 'to question children in regard to the nature of :an 'oath, &c. This 'examination this morning resulted airfollciws : Alderman—Do you' know the nature of an oath? Witness—Yes, sir. Ald.—Suppose you tell a lie, where will you go to? Witness—(Very promptly and emphati cally)—To the Bishop's. Ald.-Oh, not There is, a place further than that. Witness—l don't want to go any farther. That is away out to Eighteenth and Sam xnerstreets. This ended the questioning. The magis= trate then made the necessary explanations to the prosecutor and his testimony was taken. DISTURBANCE AMONG NEGROES.—Last night about nine o'clock a row occurred among a crowd of negroes at Sixth and Lom bard streets. Two men got into a political discussion. Words ran high, and finally blows were struck. This seemed to have been a signal for a free fight. A number of the spectators joined in the melee, and black eyes soon became common. Razors must have been used, as several of the partici pants received cuts on the hands and face. Nobody was seriously hurt however. The fighting was kept up about fifteen minutes, and then the belligerent parties dispersed. No. arrests were made. RUNAWAY AND ACCTORNT.—A. horse at tached to a wagon belonging to Mr. Sharkey, ran away yesterday, at -Thirty-first and Market streets. Several unauccessfal at tempts were made to stop the horse. A. young man, the driver of Thumbert's pie wagon, was struck in the breast by the wagon, which was thrown around suddenly by the runaway, and was knocked down. The man was carried away in an insensible condition. Oth PArsTmes, PASTELS, &o.—Every connoisseur and lover .of art should attend the sale of oil painting, pastels and crystal medallions which commences this evening, at Scott's Art Gallery, 1020 Chestnut street, at n o'clock. They are all neatly framed in fine gold-leaf frames, of newest designs, and have been carefully selected from the studios of the most eminent artists by the agent of the New York Art Gallery, an institution established in our sister city for the encour agement of art. AMONG THE PHILISTINES,—An individual of genteel appearance fell in with and was captivated by a young woman named. Jenny May, last evening, and was taken to a house en Dock street. While there it is alleged that the fascinating Jenny relieved her companion of $2O. She was arrested, and after a hearing before Alderman Butler, was committed to prison. STEALING Moan.—John Thomas was arrested yesterday and taken before Ald. Plankinton for the larceny of $lO from a woman with whom he resided at Penn Vil lage in the Twenty-nrst Ward. The money was stolen from a bureau drawer. Thomas was held $5OO bail to answer. COMPLETED.—The work of paving Chest nut street, from the Bridge to. INFOBNATION IS WANTED of a young man named C. T. Abbott, who recently left home while in a state of depression. See the advertisement in to-day's paper. SILENCE AND TALIC.—Mr. Wendell Phil lips is very much disgusted that General Grant and Secretary Stanton do not come out boldly in favor of Congress or the President. He is "down on" their .'neutrality." There is one topic on which they ought to be willing to speak their minds, viz: the excellence and cheapness of the coal sold by W. W.
