To the ifditor of the New York Times:— The Management of the Crosby Opera House Art Association is induced by the numerous inquiries which are daily made respecting the period at which the distribution of the premiums will take place, to request you to allow it this method of generally replying to them. No enterprise of its class of equal magni -- tude has ever been submitted to the public. Something more than a million of dollars to be raised in such small shares, and the delivery to each subscriber of a fine steel en graving, require an immense expenditure of time and labor. In all, these engravings necessarily amount to over one hundred and fifty thousand, the demand being much lar ger for those which accompany the single shares; and, although these plates have re cently been worked night and day, a suffi cient number of impressions has not been produced to keep pace with the quantity ac tually required. In consequence of this, the Management has found itself compelled to add a-third engraving to those which are given with the five-dollar certificates, as it has been found in several even of the prin cipal agencies that many had been led to de fer subscribing until they could obtain one of these. Up to the present time, taking into con sideration the fact of the numerous bogus affairs which have been palmed upon the public under the name of "gift enterprises" —naturally affecting in a slight degree the general faith—our success has been most decided ; so much so as to, render the speedy consummation of the undertaking a matter of cer tainty- But in order to realize the objects of the Association,it is desired that the whole number of certificates should be sold. This requires a continuance of the litter* pat ronage which has been awarded the Asso ciation during its brief existence—scarcely four months—a far shorter period than has been willingly . . and ungrudgingly allowed to Art Unions whose schemes were not one tithe so comprehensive, and whose currying out did not involve one-hundredth part of the labor entailed by this. At the same time I have great satisfaction in stating that the Management of the Crosby Opera House Art Association has determined upon fixing the period of the drawing as soon as the returns for October have been received from the various agents in different parts of the country, and would request the subscribers to believe that the 35lanagement has fully as much care for their interest as it has for mine. CRAIG, Nnw "lona - , Nov. 5, 1866.-2 o all Editors and A gents of the .Associated Press: I have read the notice sent over the wires this evening, signsd by Messrs. Prime and Beach, and pronounce its assertions utterly and in fan ously false. I have not been dischargedunanimonsly, nor at all. My responsibility is to the Ex ecutiye Committee and to them only; and they have not and will not unite in the lying assertions of Prime and Beach. It is true that I have for some weeks past headed a movement here to remodel and improve our association; as you will learn from my printed circular, now on its way 'to you, and it is also trim hat all these ar rangements are completed and will go into *Set next Monday. My resignation has been in the hands of the Executive Committee forseveral weeks, and whether accepted or not, I should have retired at the end of this week, at which time, as I have good reason to believe, every agent, or reporter of the association will ear nestly co-operate in the new movement, .which I assure you is started with the most ample backers, and in its results will largely prontote the interests of all the papers out aide of this city, and I shall confidentlyhope for your earnest approval.
