•[For the Phfla. Evening Bulletin.] Who M WeadeU Phillips? •'Mr.'Vyendell Phillips, who is seeking no-, •toriety by professing to be an abcditionist and a Mend to the black man, assumes aIBO the right,• as .Bnehj.to abuse ail who differ -with him in opinion, and is at present de livering lectures, in which, under the modest pretensionoFsiiperior loyalty, he does hot hesitate to denounce General Grant and the Congress ot the United States, but also Tents his wrath upon foe-whole Republican .party 'of the country. A distinguished •Senator from Massachusetts, whom all the Mends of liberty honor and respect, has, -for mope than 1 a y ear pas t, claimed his espe cial attention in theway’ of abuse. As many may not beiawareof the great merits of this pretentious individual—this self made censor; —it may be well to recall some portions of his past history. . . As Mr. Phillips very freely uses the term “Traitor” to- some, of the most prominent men of the .country, perhaps it may be al-.. lowable to inquire. into his right to occupy the position he has assumed. First, as ..to his loyalty—While John C, Calhoun, and .his followers were open ly proclaiming nullification in the Soath, Mr. Wendell Phillips and his little clique were actively working for the same end in the North, openly proclaiming the Consti tution of the United States to be “a covenant with death and an agreement with hell !” and doing all in his power to dissolve the union of the States—his claims to be re garded as a nullifier and disunionist are considered by his friends hardly second to those of JohnC.Calhonn or Jefferson Davis. So. much for his loyalty. In his attempt to defeat the election of Abraham Lincoln to his second term, whom he denounced asl the “slave-hound- of Illinois,” we have a specimen of his loVe for the black man. When the fntnre historian who shall dispas sionately pass judgment on the men and events both in the; present andpast, whose •duty ifwUl be to weigh'men both'by their profusion ahd practlee. and who in the line •of duty shall carefully read a file of the “Anti-Slavery Standard,” the organ of Mr. Phillips and clique for the last twenty er thirty years, what will be the astonishment of an.imparaal historian in finding that a omall number of < the men and women who, claiming to be the special friends of the negro, and the most zealous opponents of slavery—abolitionists par excellence; whose hatred of slavery was so great .that they were' willing to sever the Union to accomplish its abolition, even going so far as to refuse to vote under what they re garded as a pro-slavery Constitution, which they, styled “an agreement with hell,” yet these same men, under the lead of Mr. Wendell Phillips, who for years had refased to vote to place in power the best and purest men in the nation—men known to be the avowed and.'open opponents of slavery and its extension info the Territories of the Union—when the opportunity was offered them of strengthening the hands and sup porting foe greatand good- Abraham Lin coln, whose memory four millions of black men,now free but once slave, delight to honor as their best and true Mend—whom every Mend of liberty, both white and black, the world over,(Wendell Philllpsand his follow ers excepted),regard asoneofthegreatest and' best Statesmen of this or any age? Wnat did these professed abolitionists do? Did they vote for him in preference to the pro-slavery, pro-rebel candidate, George B. McClellan, ■or did they merely refuse to vote ? How •stands the record? Would that it could be blotted out of the page of history. They hot;only did not decline to vote, bat so de termined was Wendell Phillips and his co adjutors that Abraham Lincoln should not be elected, that foeyihadefoemostdeter mined and persistent effort to accomplish his defeat and the election of McClellan, foe avowed opponent of the Anti-Slavery po licy and measures of; President Lincoln. Not, it is true, by directly voting for George B. McClellan, bnt by getting up a third can didate,'through a convention al professedly Anti-Slavery men, who met at Cleveland, and nominated for President and Vice Pre sident, John C. Fremont, and General John Cochran, these the faithful non-voting aboli tionists, as well as all good anti-slavery Re publicans were asked to vote for, to defeat Abraham Lincoln. Does any one say, per haps Mr. Phillips did not mean to elect McClellan, bnt really expected to elect Fremont? Has Mr. Phillips ever been •considered demented, by Mend or oppo nent? Is his best Mend willing to make that excuse for him? When then, if the verdict of the impartial historian and fntnre ages shall proclaim Wendell Phillips to be a Tbaitob—a traitor to his country—a trai tor to foe anti-slavery cause—a traitor to humanity, who will there be to complain, or to deny the justice of the verdict? If placed aide by side with Andrew Johnson, will not Wendell Pnillips be . considered the more guilty man of the two, inasmuch as the former, althong'n offering to be. the “Moses of the black man,” never made foe high anti-slavery professions of the latter? His fall therefore is notfso great. But as Henry Ward Beecher once said, “What a blessed thing is inconsistency; it saves so many people from being' fools.” If it vrillalßO. save, them from being traitors, may.we not consider Wendell Phillips 'an ■exceedingly inconsistent man, and give him our sympathy and pity accordingly? But let no one hereafter claim for him a promi nent position in the anti-slavery movement of the day. If Mr. Phillips is willing to work modestly and faithfully in behalf of the freed men— for their education and elevation—recogniz ing their equal rights and equal manhood— as Mr, Garrison has done—instead of decry ing and- ridiculing foe associated efforts in their behalf, as had been his wont; thus showing works meet for repantence, his in consistency may be forgotten and forgiven by foe American people. And with the manliness of Henry Ward Beecher, he may, like him. if uot trusted aa. a leader, become a Mend and co-worker in the onward and upward movement of the age. Such, at least, is foe hope and wish of more than one Radical Abolitionist. From California. San Fean cisco, Oct. 27.—A letter from ■Gen. CASTOR UOB HEALTH AND STRENGTH USB CAFK- X* WELL A CO.’S PATENT GLASS CASTOR WHEELS. Thebe wheels are designed for Pianos, Bedsteads, Ac. We claim that they give to Pianos a greatly increased force ofsoond. without detracting from the harmony and melody of the instrument, rendering every note more distinct to the ear. This la so apparent t-Wat they are now being applied by many to these valuable mu sical instruments. Dr. valentine Mott, previous to his oeath, pronounced the Glass Castor wheels an in valuable invention for bedfast invalids, who are gnatded against the damp floors after undergoing the - process of cleaning, or where dampness is produced item any other cause. Aside from this. Housekeepers are relieved from the dread of having their carpets cut or torn, as frequently happens from those now in use, often caused by a rust, which adheres with gloe-like tenacity. No such annoyance possibly proceed from the Glass Castor Wheels, as we all know that glass is non corrosive. There are no rough or unfio* lshededges to the Glass Wheels such as we often find In those of iron, and. the latter, though smoothly fin ished, will soon rust, from the dampness of the atmae phere, if nothing else, producing roughness on thesur iaoe, or edge, while the former will always maintain the smoothness of glass, just as they are finished. By sleeping uponglass wheels you retain all theQleo tricity yea had in your body on retiring, and you get up in the morning feeling as fresh and active as a young man. Glass being a non-conductor, the elec tricity gained while in bed cannot pass off.. Aak your doctor what he thinks of the Glass Castor Wheels. Ask him if all diseases, with the exception of chroma diseases, are not caused from the want of electricity. We have a man in -our place whom the doctorspro nounced past caring, with- the inflammatory rheu matism. The wheels cured -him in less thatfftsr weeks. He is to-day, a stout healthy tnan r .These are facts which can be proven on application at our Office.
