The storm was general in the western part of the State. The Pennsylvania Election. Harrisburg, Oct. 23. —1 n explanation for the delay •in publishing the official re turns entire of the State, at the late election, it is due to the Secretary of the Common wealth to explain that several counties have not made their returns, because the Return Judges thereof have adjourned over to the 26th inst., the period fixed for receiving the returns of the vote in the army. Such Re turn Judges have been instructed by the proper officers here, that they can make a return of the home vote before they re ceive the soldier’s vote, whioh latter return can be made as is provided by law, separately and afterwards. There are hundreds if not thousands of soldiers, citizens of Pennsylvania still in the military service of the Government, whose votes may give a different aspect to dose results in localities, and affect the de. cision of many wagers on the election in volving large sums of money. After an absence of several days in New York, Governor Curtin returned to, the capital last night. Massachusetts Politics. Boston, Oot. 23. —The Democrats of the Third District have nominated Wm. Y., to the Tribune says: The failure of the Knitting firm of Cohoes, previously telegraphed to you, is confirmed. The firm name is Alden, Prink & Weston, and they are said to be the heaviest manufacturers of knit woolen goods in the United States, Their axe factory, nominally carried on by W. J. Ten Eyck & Co,, was one of the largest in the country. They employed about 1,000 hands, whose monthly wages averaged 825,000, so that it will at once be perceived how severe the blow is to Cohoes and its manufacturing in terests, The company owned fonr exten sive mills in the village, and nntil very re cently was supposed to be immensely, wealthy. Among the heaviest creditors are the wool dealers of Troy, and one or two New York concerns are bitten quite se verely. Messrs, Alden, Frink & Weston havedis gosed of their property to J. L. Thompson, ons & Co., of Troy—heavy creditors—and this firm has assumed the payment of the operatives. They also published a card, saying that “they feel confident all creditors will be paid.” Rumor is, of course, very busy. One report says the assets of the con cern are from §150,000 to §200,000 over the liabilities, and other accounts represent that •several more heavy concerns are so involved by losses as to necessitate their suspension. The liabilities are from §500,000 to §600,000. The National Bank of Cohoes, which held a great deal of their paper, is folly pro tected. Bala* at Phllarielpbla Stock Board.
