The other indictments which are pendingagainst Lee, Johnston, -Hunter and others, will be allowed to go over. k- The Senate Commerce Committee have nearly.matured their bill to prevent smug gling. It is very elaborate and covers all difficulties surrounding this homely in- creasing and illegitimate traffic. They have taken no action yet on the nomination of Smythe as Collector for New York. The rejection of Frank Blair and one or two other collectors by the Senate has greatly demoralized the Pennsylvania nomi nations. By recent advices it appears that Austria, notwithstanding the warning given by our minister not to despatch troops to Mexico, has embarked the first installment to that eountry. From Rio Janeiro. E w YORK, May 3.--Advices from Rio Janeiro, to April 3d, state that it is believed that the issue of the Bank of Brazil will be increased, the Government guaranteeing it, and the ten millions of gold in its vaults will be withdrawn to meet the expenses of the war. Two Peruvian iron-olads have arrived .from- England, and the capture of the Span ish schooner Dorothea, using the United States flag, is reported. A. Peruvian iron-clad is daily expected from the United States. The news of the attack on Paso de la Pa tria and the crossing into Paraguay, is hourly expected. It is rumored that the Paraguayans have advanced into Missouris to attack the Bra zilian division under Paron de Porto From Havana. NEW Yong, May 3.—The Havana cor respondence says that a cargo of negroes bas just been landed and distributed on the south side of the Island. There is a large st ck of sugar on hand, and freights are brisk. The cholera is less violent at Guadeloupe, and the deaths now average 71 per cent. St. Domingo advices of the 14th state that the late revolutionary movement at San Cristobal was promptly suppressed.. Importers to St. Domingo hereafter can pay duties in gold, silver, or the currency of the Island. The Reciprocity Treaty. WASHINGTON, May 3. The President :has approved the bill authorizing and em powering the Secretary of the Treasury to remit, or if paid, to refund anyduties levied on produce shipped from a port of the United States to a port of the United States via Canada, if the said produce was actually in transitu and debarred by ice,when the re cent reciprocity treaty with Canada expired, From Venezuela. Times) _ Lrsnoze, Portugal; Thursday , April 12; 1866.—The United States sloop-of-war Bear serge -.arrived here, yesterday morning twenty days-:;froth Sierra Leone, coast of Africa. Before leaving that place the yellow fever broke out on board in its most fearful . form, causing . Commander Harrold to put to sea with several sick on board. Before reaching this place seven officers and seven men died, and were buried et sea. ThG folloiving are the names of the, officers lost— Surgeon, Benjamin_Vreeland; 2d Assistant Engineere 2 Joel H. Ballard, Joseph Hoops; Third - .Asmstant Engineers, Richard F. Ed wards, Elisha R. Tyson; Mates, Samuel Davis, Semi. Paine. - The names of the men I could not learn. The Kearsarge 'was immediately put in quarantine, and came to anchor off the lower part of the city. Several offers of medical assistancewere made by the autho rities on shore and the commanders of the different vessels in the harbor. A. P. A. Surgeon Henry Shaw, of the United States shirt Ino being on board at the time, imme diately repaired on board the Bearsarge, where he remained quarantined with that vessel. I learn that there is but one case left on board that is not convalescent. There had been no new cases developed since their putting to sea. Surgeon Vreeland was one of the first to fall, leaving the ship without a surgeon until her arrival here. There is much excitement in the streets about it this morning and in the city papers. Many re fearful of the fever spreading, bat medical men consider that there is no cause for alarm. VITT. BULLETIN. TELEGRAPHING.--At a meeting of the Stockholders of the Insulated Lines Tele graph Company in New York, to-day, on motion of Amos h. Merrill,of Boston, Chair man of the Committee of Inquiry, the fol lowing resolution was unanimously passed: "Voted, that this Company is highly grat ified with the success which has attended the use on its lines of Mr. Van Choate's sev eral inventions, methods and systems for telegraphic purposes, which the Company believe have made its lines among the best, and probably the very best ever built." All matters of difference between Mr. Van Choate and the Insulated Linea Tele graph Company have been settled satisfac torily to all parties. HIGHWAY RO.BBERY.—Martin Ryan and Samuel White were before Alderman Swift this morning, upon the charge of highway robbery. It is alleged that, yesterday after noon, they knocked down a man at Twenty second and Chestnut streets, beat him badly and then robbed him of about $B. Another man was knocked down in the same neigh. borhood and robbed of a pocket book con taining $2O. When arrested one of the de fendants threw away a pocket book which bad in it $lB 70, and was identified by the loser as the one stolen from him. The ac cused werecommitted. NEW Beacon HOUSES—MEETING or AR carrEars.—The Committee on Property of the Controllers of the Public Schools, at a recent meeting, directed a communication to be sent to all the architects of the city, requesting a meeting with the Committee on Property and the City CoJncils Commit tee on Schools. The meeting will accord ingly be held on Monday afternoon next, at the office of the Controllers, Sixth and Adelphi streets. The object is to present to the architects the subject of new school houses in the hope of being able to procure the most suitable plans and specifications. FOUR BOYS BURIED IN A BAND BANE.— Last evening about seven o'clock a sand bank at Church and Penn streets, Frank ford, caved in. At the time there were four boys•engaged in playing about the spot, and all were buried in the sand. Fortunately assistance was promptly at hand and the juveniles were all taken out alive, but they were more or leas hurt. Irving Cruson had a leg broken, W, Carey was injured inter nally, and 'W. Colton and John Lyon sus tained slight injuries. The boys were all conveyed to their homes in the neighbor hood. Branum° BY A. BOY.—A lad named Con way, was cut in the shoulder, yesterday af ternoon, at Eighth and Sansom streets, by another boy, named Major. It seems that Conway was the largest of the two, and was imposing on Major. The latter was whit tling a stick at the time and in defence plunged his knife into the shoulder of Con way. The wound inflicted was not serious. Major, who is only ten years old, was ar rested, but was discharged by Alderman Beitler, after a severe reprimand. RIOTOUS CoNnucm.—Yesterday afternoon acme men got into a dispute in the tavern of Mr. Loughlin, on Twelfth street, below Lombard, about the payment for drinks. The party finally got into the street and had a sort of a free fight. A boy had bis head severely cut by a atone which was used by one of the belligerents. The police arrested Loughlin, C. H. Derr, and Thomas White, who were taken before Ald. Swift, and were held in 8600 bail to answer the charge of riot. A HANDSOME VESSEL.—A new three masted schooner made her appearance at our wharves yesterday from Milton, Dela ware, where she was built of the best Dela ware white oak, for Captain John I. Cook, who will command her. Her dimensions are as follows: length, 120 feet; beam, 30 feet, depth of hold, 11 feet; and will carry 4,000 barrels. She is called the "William F. Cushing," after the estimable junior partner of the well-known firm of D. S. Stetson it Co., and will run in the Southern trade. ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING.—This morning, about 4 o'clock, Leo Reinfried, residing at No. 1314 Frankford road, was accidentally shot in the shoulder by a burglar alarm pis tol. The weapon was attach9d to the rear , door of the house of Mr. Reinfried, ,and he is supposed to have touched, the Spring in passing It. The wound is painful, though not dangerous. LARCENY. -- Holloway Humes was arrested yesterday for the larceny of $95. It seems that a man was counting money in a stable at Second street and Columbia avenue, and left his pocket book there. When he returned for it the wallet was missing. Humes was the onlYerson about the premises. He was held in $l,OOO bail by Ald. Shoemaker. Last evening, about a quarter past six o'clock, Mrs. Han nah Adams, residing on Foulkrod street, in Frankford, was assaulted by a man who threw into her face a substance supposed to have been vitriol. Mrs. Adams was se , ' riously burned about the face and eyes. The perpetrator of the outrage escaped. SLIGHT FlRE.—This morning about 9 o'clock, a fire occurred at the cotton lap factory of •Henry Wood, on Marshall street above Poplar. The flames originated in the second -story, from friction in the ma chinery, and were extinguished before any serious damage had been done. FATAL A CCIDEN T.—Mrs. Thompson Te • siding at Kittanning, Pa., met wilh a terrible accident on Saturday night, which resulted. fatally. It appears that she was carrying a lighted lamp, filled with coal oil, when it fell from her bands and exploded. Her clothing took fire and in an instant she was completely enveloyed in flames. As sistance was rendered as speedily as possi ble, but before the flames could be extin guished, she was so severely burned that death ensued in a short time. THE Montgomery (Ala.) Advertiser of the 25th ult. says—We learn that several por tions of the State were visited by a severe and quite destructive. tornado on Sunday last. Y., May 3.—To-day, about 61 o'clock, a fire broke oat in the Pottery owned by Satterlie & Morey. "Thee fire soon reached the Paper Mill of Howland, Palser & Co, which, together with a large quantity of wood and ,straw, was entirely destroyed. The loss of Howland,. Palser &- Co. is $50,000, and they are insured for $lB,OOO. The loss of Satterlee & Morey is $15,000, on which there is an insurance of $B,OOO. Mrs. Jeff. Davis at Fort Monroe.
