CITY BPILLETEN THE ERRAND BOY ROB/SER.—William Dehaven, charged with robbing errand boys had another hearing before Alderman Dea ler yesterday afternoon. Several lads em ployed as errand boys in stores testified that Dehaven met them in the street and desired them to go after a fire-probf key,- saying he would hold their packages until they returned. When they came back, De haven was not to be found. From one boy he obtained lastings worth $97; from another Silks valued at $B6; and from another, cloth ing worth upwards of $4O, The case was continued until this afternoon. Dehaven was held in default of $4,000 bail for his appear ance. Stric - tnE n SHOOTING.—This morning, about five o'clock, the body of a man, named Godfrey Hartman, was found in an alley in the rear of No. 450 New Market street. There was a bullet hole through the head, and by tbe aide of the man a large revolver was round. A policeman heard the report of a pistol about two o'clock, but could not as • certain from whence it came. The body was discovered at the time named, by a girl ••living in the house. The deceased was about 53 years of age and boarded with Mr. Trefts, at No. 450 New Market street. He was formerly a soldier. Coroner Taylor was no tified to hold an inquest in the case. FELL THROUGH A HATOHWAY.—A boy, named Charles Wade, employed in the hat manufacturing establishment of Messrs. Donovan & Case, Sixth and Minor streets, tell through a hatchway in the factory, from the third to the first floor yesterday afternoon, and was seriously injured about the head and face. He was attempting to place a bucket on the nook attached to the hatchway rope, and lost his balancemming down upon his face. He was removed to the Hospital. He resided at No. 785 South Sixth street. At- MURDEROUS ASSAULT.—Lawrence Mc- Qaully and Wm. Jacoby were before Alder man Thomas yesterday, upon the charge of assault and battery. It is alleged that they attacked and badly injured a man at Nicetown. They were committed. Henry Ithail, the proprietor of a lager beer saloon, at whose house the assault is alleged to have been made, was arrested on the charges of abetting the affair and keeping a disorderly house. He was held in $l,OOO bail to answer. IDENTMED.—The body of the man found in the Delaware at Reed street wharf, yes terday, was identified as that of Robert W. Smith, who had been missing since the night of February 2d. The deceased re sided on Smith's Island, and, on the night of his disappearance, he started in a boat from below Chestnut street, to go to the Island, There was much ice in the Dela ware at the time, and it is supposed that the boat was crushed by it. Mr. Smith was 53 years old. ROBBED OF HIS WATCH.—An individual who got among the denizens of Seventh and Bedford streets, last night, was relieved of his watch and chain while in company with . a young woman named Kate Roach. Kate was subsequently arrested. The stolen arti cles were sold to a man named John Mor ris, and were recovered. Morris was ar rested for receiving stolen goods. The pri soners were both committed by Aldermat "Titterruary. A CHARMING STORY.—Captain Mayne Reid begins a most fascinating fiction, en titled "The Bandolero, or a Marriage among . the Mountains," in iiatarday Night, for this week. This well-known and popular au thor has lavished upon this, his greatest work, all the wealth of his cultivated im agination, and the resources of his well stored mind. It is well worthy of careful perusal. BASE BALL.—The Athletic Base Ball Club will inaugurate the season to-morrow after noon. The opening game will be played by two nines, of which Mcßride and Pratt will be the pitchers, and Klinefelder and Dock ney the catchers. Several new members of the Club will appear in the game to-mor row. The Club expects to secure the cham pionship of the 'United States during this season. CRICKET.—The Young America Club, of Germantown, will open the season to-mor-4 row, with the usual club i match, first eleven against at next twenty-two. All nterested in the game are invited to attend. The matches with the local and New York and Pottsville clubs make it a busy prospect fur the crick eters this year. ,STEALING FENCE RAILS.—For some time past Messrs. Chas. Thomson Jones and A. D. Levering have been annoyed by the re moval of the rani from fences upon their property. Yesterday Daniel Megonegal was caught in the act of carrying off a rail. Hewes arrested, and,after a hearing before, Alderman Ramsdell, was sent to prison. TAPPING A TILL,—A youth named Michael Connelly was arrested yesterday at Second and Union streets, upon the charge of having stolen $l2 from the money drawer of a lager beer saloon in that va cinity.
