From California. SAN Fitarzcisoo, April ' 24.—The steamer John L. Stephens, from Mazatlan, arrived with fifty-five thousand dollars in treasure. In the down trip, the steamer was seized at .Cape St. Lucas by order of General Corona, and an effort made to send her to Altata, but she was finally ordered to La Pase, Captain Wakeman forwarded to the 'United states Consul his protest against the seizure of the vessel, or intermeddling with her cargo. Notwithstanding which a guard of Liberal soldiers was placed on board who ransacked her in search of contraband arti cles. As a drunken crowd of Liberals on :Shore was prepared to commit violence, Captain Wakeman deemed it expedient to give five hundred dollars in cash, and a bond for one thousand five hundred dollars snore, when the vessel was released, and she proceeded on her voyage. SAN FEAsoisco, April 21.—Mexican re pbrts are very much mixed, everything de pending on the' amount of credulity pos sessed by correspondents. Those inclined to the Liberals assert that in the recent bat tles near Mazatlan the Imperialists were totally routed, while Consul Guellen asserts the reports are absolutely false. When the steamer John L. Stephens was captured by the Liberals she bore the Im perial flag, and was engaged transporting -contraband articles and munitions of war in boxes marked hardware and claret, and a considerable portion of ammunition was not on her manifest. The contraband arti cles found were all confiscated. The steamer Continental, from New York, .arrived to-day. Mining stocks unsteady. Ophir, $742 Imperial, $148; Savage. $1,125; Belcher,s347 Yellow Jacket, $790; Cbollar Potosi, $337. The telegraph cable between New West , sninster and Victoria is completed ,and gives uninterrupted telegraphic communication with the latter place by the California State Company's lines.
